NFO Program Assistant needed to fill one position at U-M Center for Research on Learning and Teaching in Engineering (CRLT-Engin). See detailed job description

 

Primary responsibilities include supporting New Faculty Orientation Program by doing such tasks as:

  • Content Creation:  

  • Assist with enhancing digital accessibility modules within Canvas course shells.  

  • Assist with maintaining overall Canvas course structure, updating pages and modules as needed.

  • Lead debrief and evaluation activities for both Canvas and in-person course sessions, summarizing feedback for future improvements.

  • Develop supporting materials for in-person events, including slideshows (e.g., for NFO), informational maps, and seating plans.

  • Curate and design photo slideshows for atrium displays.

  • Administration & Event Planning:  

  • Assist with communications to faculty panelists.

  • Assist with drafting and sending welcome emails and event reminders to new faculty members.

  • Assist with assigned project tasks and deadlines in Asana, ensuring timely execution of program deliverables.

  • Assist with circulating lists of new faculty, ensuring accuracy across MCommunity and other channels.

  • Lead review and completion of event support forms to confirm logistics and requirements for faculty programs.

  • Coordinate the virtual consultation designed for new faculty at the beginning of the Fall semester

This position is mostly remote, with some on-site event support required. Starting pay rate is $28.00/hour. The closing date for this posting is 2/23/2026.

Hours

  • March 1 – May 31: 1–5 hours per week (primarily remote)

  • June 1 – August 26: 10–15 hours per week (mix of remote and some on-site as needed)

    • August 11–14, 2026: In-person event preparation required

    • August 18, 2026: Full-day in-person event support (8:00 am – 6:00 pm)

  • August 27 – September 7: 5–7 hours per week (primarily remote)

  • September 8 – September 22: 1–5 hours per week (primarily remote)

Educational Value

Student assistants at CRLT-Engin develop their office and people skills within a cohesive team that works with faculty, graduate student instructors, and instructional aides to promote excellence and innovation in engineering education. The Program Assistant provides essential support and leadership in the preparation and delivery of the orientation event, digital course content, and communication initiatives. This position plays a pivotal role in creating, managing, and enhancing online course modules, coordinating event logistics, and facilitating effective communication with faculty and collaborators. The Program Assistant will also lead task management processes and program evaluations to inform continuous improvement.

Job Requirements
  • Enrolled in a graduate program in engineering, engineering education, or STEM-related field,

  • Familiarity with Google Apps (e.g., spreadsheets, documents, etc.), Zoom meeting operations, and project management tools such as Asana,

  • Experience with learning management systems, especially Canvas, 

  • Strong communication and writing skills,

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities,

  • Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner, and to work both independently and as part of a collaborative group, and

  • Experience with event or program planning is desirable.
