The Translational Tissue Modeling Laboratory in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, is seeking a highly motivated individual with a desire to work in medical research to fill an open Laboratory Assistant work-study position. The position is ideal for an undergraduate looking to expand their knowledge of medical research and gain invaluable laboratory skills to complement their academic studies. The overall goal of this laboratory is to create a repository of patient-derived intestinal and lung tissues in 3D culture and provide the broader research community with access to these diverse tissues. These cultures span the continuum of normal and disease states, including IBD, IPF and cancer progression. The candidate will enable cutting-edge research projects and technologies in a collaborative and interdisciplinary team environment across the research and clinical community at the University of Michigan.

Sufficient training will be provided for all tasks - no experience required. However, applicant should possess strong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills, and excellent documentation, communication, and teamwork skills.
Minimum two-year commitment and required availability over summer break.
4-6 hours/week during the academic year, which would include 2-3 required weekend hours; part-time to full-time during the summer.
