Job Description

The Climbing Center Supervisor provides on-shift leadership and oversight for daily operations at the Hadley Climbing Center. The purpose of this role is to support safe, effective facility operations while mentoring and guiding Climbing Center Assistants. Supervisors act as the on-duty lead, ensuring that policies, procedures, and safety expectations are consistently followed.

Primary responsibilities include supervising daily operations, providing guidance and support to student staff, and overseeing belay, lead, and bouldering tests to ensure consistency and safety. Supervisors assist with staff scheduling and shift coverage, respond to and document incidents or injuries, and handle elevated customer service concerns and conflict resolution. Additional duties include completing opening and closing procedures, supporting programs and events, and monitoring the facility for safety and security concerns, all under the direction of professional staff.

Educational Value

This position provides advanced professional development for students interested in leadership, recreation management, and student supervision. Supervisors gain hands-on experience leading peers, making real-time decisions, and supporting safe operations in a structured and supervised environment.

Students develop leadership, communication, and conflict-resolution skills while learning how to manage shifts, support team dynamics, and respond appropriately to incidents. The role builds experience in policy interpretation, documentation, and operational oversight, as well as mentorship and coaching of fellow student employees. These skills are highly transferable to careers in recreation, education, public service, healthcare, hospitality, and organizational leadership.

Job Requirements

Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States and able to obtain and maintain First Aid, CPR, and AED certification. Belay certification (top rope minimum) is required or must be obtained upon hire. The position requires demonstrated leadership ability, strong communication and organizational skills, and the capacity to manage peer staff fairly and consistently.

Students must be comfortable working in an active recreation environment, including standing and walking for extended periods, assisting with light physical tasks, and working at height for demonstrations and safety checks. Availability to work 6–12 hours per week, including evenings and weekends, is required. All duties are performed with training and oversight from professional staff.
