Job Description

This position serves as Student Program Coordinator (SPC) to support the development and coordination of activities to recruit, retain, and enrich the experiences of students involved in programs and initiatives associated with the SuccessConnects program in the Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI). This includes assistance with event planning, special projects, and resource connections. The SPC works closely with the SPC Program Manager to address the needs of a broad community of scholars and to provide student insight and leadership in identifying and engaging students to enhance their overall success. Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct event planning for activities to support the holistic success of a broad population of students.

  • Assist in developing marketing strategies to recruit students and increase participation in events, activities, and opportunities. 

  • Keep accurate records of activities that have taken place to monitor and evaluate impact, including utilization of data and marketing tools and management resources. 

  • Represent OAMI in recruitment and student-based events to increase awareness of the office, its programs, resources, and opportunities. 

  • Serve as a role model for program participants by striving for academic excellence, being active in office activities, and serving in other campus capacities where networking can support your goals, the goals of the position, and OAMI overall.

Work Schedule: 

  • 6 to 8 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends.

  • Paid training during the Winter 2026 semester (2-3 hours per week).

  • No work during Spring/Summer 2026.

  • Fall semester start date: Monday, 8/24/26 (some room for flexibility).

Educational Value

This position incorporates educational opportunities relating to communication (public speaking and writing), project and event planning, development, and coordination; organizational, teamwork, support in curriculum development; and presentation skills.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications: 

  • Undergraduate student enrolled at U-M for at least two terms.

  • Demonstrated experience planning and executing workshops and events.

  • Strong organizational, verbal, written, and technological skills and demonstrated ability to follow through on tasks and assignments. 

  • Ability to function independently and contribute positively to teamwork and academic enrichment. 

  • Experience working with students from various backgrounds.

  • Experience creating and delivering presentations, and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, etc.) and Google (docs, slides, sheets, etc.).

  • Possess general knowledge of U-M departments, programs, and resources.

  • Available to work some evenings and weekends.

  • Available to work the SuccessConnects Kickoff Welcome Event on Tuesday, 9/1/26 (4 to 9 pm).
