About SIBS: S.I.B.S.: Support for Incoming Black Students (S.I.B.S.) is a year-long student-coordinated peer mentorship program that is open to all students at the University of Michigan who are interested in issues that affect the Black community and who are dedicated to the retention and success of the students in the program. Mentorship pairs will consist of an upper-class student mentor based on commonalities and factors such as identity, major, school, hometown, and other interests To learn more about the University of Michigan's SIBS Program, please visit the SIBS Page - Work closely with the Program Manager to assist with the program coordination of Supporting Incoming Black Students (S.I.B.S.), a campus-wide mentor initiative housed within Trotter/MESA.
- Assist with and support the organization, planning, and recruiting of participants, such as the leadership team for S.I.B.S., throughout the year.
- Assist in training and leadership development of the S.I.B.S. Lead Team
- Coordinate advertising efforts alongside the Program Manager for S.I.B.S. opportunities, as well as the SIBS newsletter. This also includes: attending student organization meetings, contacting local community organizations, and creating and disseminating promotional materials.
- Schedule meeting times and reserve spaces for lead team meetings
- Lead core team meetings by preparing agendas, facilitating meetings, and sending out meeting minutes and reminders.
- Assist with logistics, setup, implementation, and cleanup of S.I.B.S. programs and events
- Oversee the tasks and responsibilities of all Core Lead Team members (including Finance Chair, Social Media/Marketing Chair, Participant Liaison, Communications Chair).
- Establish and maintain positive community relationships with all parties involved with S.I.B.S. (example: work with RSO’s, Residence Halls, Greek Organizations, and Departments on campus to promote S.I.B.S. opportunities and collaborative programming efforts).
- Maintain positive community relationships with all involved with special events.
- Attend one-hour, weekly one-on-one meetings with the Program Manager, included in weekly scheduled hours.
- Attend required Trotter/MESA events

Job Requirements Enrolled as a student for the Fall 2026 and Winter 2027 terms. Work a minimum of 10-15 hours/week (min and max) An interest in and/or increasing familiarity with social identities, social justice, and U-M campus climate. Committed to learning and working independently and collaboratively with a team. Excellent time management skills – the ability to manage one’s schedule with school work, this position, and other obligations Must be attentive to detail, reliable, and able to meet deadlines Must be available for occasional weekend and evening hours, which would be communicated in advance. Interested in public speaking engagements and delivering presentations/workshops. Exercise strong communication and interpersonal skills – the ability to represent Trotter/MESA in contacts and communications with stakeholders and to communicate effectively with Trotter/MESA staff and other constituents. Has an interest in mentorship, higher education, public service, volunteerism, or civic engagement; an encouraging, positive attitude; good organizational skills; and can come up with creative solutions to problems and pay attention to detail.
