Job Description

The University of Michigan Electric Vehicle Center (U-M EVC) seeks a current student to work on a project focused to continue the development of the center website.  

The University of Michigan Electric Vehicle Center has been tasked with cultivating a robust EV ecosystem in the place where the modern auto industry was born. The Center has three focus areas: accelerating EV technology R&D, developing a highly skilled workforce, and establishing advanced campus facilities to support both research and education.

The successful candidate will have the ability to take the lead in speaking with stakeholders to generate needs and wish list for a website.  The candidate will have strong technical skills in developing websites and web-based databases.  The ideal candidate will have the ability to work with faculty and staff in multiple departments.

Job Duties include:
Create website for U-M EVC
  • Website should serve as portal for all things related to U-M EVC (Faculty, corporate partners, government agencies, research, news, future applications for funding)
  • Should have an internal mode where information can be posted that for U-M EVC members not available to general public.
Develop in a way that ongoing maintenance may be passed on to someone else including appropriate documentation to support the coding.

 

Educational Value

The student will be exposed to a broad range of stakeholders inside and outside of the University including government, industry and media. The student will be responsible to develop and maintain an interactive website to support the communication strategy for the Electric Vehicle Center. The student will gain a broad knowledge of the Electric Vehicle ecosystem on technical innovation, workforce development & education.

Job Requirements
Required Qualifications
Demonstrated experience and interest in designing websites.  Some college course work in developing web-based applications.
Ability to work autonomously on projects while improving best practices over time and seek out resources/answers to questions that arise.
 
Desired Qualifications
Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Science background.
Familiarity or interest in human-centered design (UX/UI) and WordPress sites
Familiarity or interest in EV ecosystem
Working knowledge of accessibility practices, including Universal Design, ADA guidelines, policies and procedures as applied to physical space design or use. 
Technical understanding of the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.0 AA, and how WCAG 2.0 can be applied to documents and course materials.
Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
