Job Description:  

 

The Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI) creates seamless pathways to college success through programming for academic enrichment, campus engagement, leadership development, and networking opportunities. The Graduate Success Partner (GSP) position works with undergraduate participants of OAMI’s SuccessConnects program to provide mentorship and support to advance student success. This includes the execution of responsibilities that include the following:

  • Provide one-on-one coaching to 3rd and 4th year undergraduates based on major/career focus area to identify barriers, goals, and strategies for success.

  • Develop workshops and curricular scope that meet the specific needs of the assigned mentees by addressing their interest areas, challenges, and knowledge acquisition to support their growth and achievements.

  • Coordinate opportunities to build community and a supportive network of scholars.

  • Identify and coordinate resources, experiential opportunities, and resource connections to enhance student awareness and preparation for collegiate and post-baccalaureate opportunities. 

  • Coordinate collaborations with campus resources that support student success.

  • Maintain spreadsheets and databases tracking student participation. 

  • Attend weekly staff meetings on Fridays from 3:00 to 4:30 pm.

  • Attend the SuccessConnects Kickoff Welcome Event on 9/1/26 from 4 to 8 pm.

  • Participation in other OAMI programming as needed.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

 

Length of Appointment: Fall Term 2026 - Winter Term 2027: 8/24/26 - 5/3/27

 

Work Schedule: Approximately 6 - 8 hours per week, including occasional evenings and weekends.

Educational Value

Professional and leadership development; experience in program planning and student development; evaluation/assessment, problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills development.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

 

  • Graduate student in Ph.D., Master’s, or professional degree program (e.g., law, medicine) at the University of Michigan. Must be graduating in or after May 2027.

  • Experience in mentoring undergraduate students, student development, academic enrichment, and program development.

  • Proven dedication to fostering student success, with experience supporting students from a wide range of backgrounds and identities.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Commitment to data and database management best practices.

  • Possess functional knowledge of University of Michigan departments, programs, and resources.

  • Available to attend/work:

    • Weekly staff meetings on Fridays from 3 pm to 4:30 pm. 

    • In-person training 8/24/26 - 8/26/26

    • The SuccessConnects Kickoff Welcome Event on 9/1/26 from 4 to 8 pm.

  • The following will not be considered:

  • Undergraduate students (unless starting a graduate program by August 2026).
  • Graduate students graduating in December 2026.
  • GSIs/GSSAs/GSRAs.
