Job Summary

Math tutors will meet with WP scholars in grades 7 through 12 via Zoom to support their journey toward content mastery as well as the cultivation of problem-solving and other core skills needed for future STEM studies.

The Wolverine Pathways Math Tutor position offers exceptional educational value for student participants in work study. Through tutoring middle and high school scholars in grades 7–12, students strengthen their own mastery of mathematical concepts, practice communication and instruction skills, and gain real-world experience in mentoring diverse learners. The role emphasizes the development of a growth mindset and fosters important professional attributes such as patience, kindness, and record-keeping. Tutors also benefit from attending professional development sessions, which support ongoing learning and encourage innovative teaching strategies. Altogether, this role is an enriching opportunity to support others while deepening one’s own understanding and skills for future STEM or education careers.

Job Requirements

Responsibilities

1. Meet with WP scholars on a pre-scheduled and/or drop-in basis.
2. Document work and maintain records.
3. Attend professional development sessions and periodic mentoring meetings.
4. Check email regularly and generally keep in touch.

Required Qualifications

1. A solid grasp of algebra, geometry, and analysis (precalculus) ,as well as either a deep understanding of their conceptual underpinnings or a desire to learn
2. A growth mindset and willingness to embrace new ways of teaching & learning
3. Kindness, patience, and a love of young people & desire to see them thrive

 

Hourly Rate $22.00/hour to $25.00/hour

Work Location The work requirements allow for the majority or all of the work to be completed off-site. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job requirements, but is not generally scheduled on a recurring basis. Remote, but may be required to come into the physical site at Marsal Family School of Education, 610 E. University Ave, Ann Arbor, MI 48109, Suite 2339.
