Overview: The LSA Language Resource Center annually employees 10-12 Temporary Media Assistants. LRC Temporary Media Assistants are typically currently enrolled UM students (primarily undergraduates, but on rare occasion graduate students). Job duties fall generally into multiple categories, depending on student workers’ schedules, skills, and unit needs, and includes participation in a Special Project. LRC Reservation Office: Duties include: check–out circulating media; assist faculty with computers, software, audio, and video equipment; check-out/check-in/organize/re-shelve library materials (videos, books, CDs, and other resources); troubleshoot equipment and notify appropriate senior staff of problems; train on proper usage of equipment; enter advanced reservations into computer system; print out reports and prepare office for daily interactions, send overdue notices; search catalogs to find requested materials; communicate with reservation office on course reserves and policy issues; intake personal items for reserve use; answer phone and email requests; clean office and equipment; apply (and inform faculty and students of ) LRC and University policies regarding copyright and fair use of materials, and direct more complex questions to senior staff.
