Job Title:         Assistant in Research

Working Title:  Pension Analyst

Hours:             30 hours or more per week in summer, 10-20 hours per week in academic year.

Shift:               M-F, days, on-site

Duration:         12 months, contingent on job performance.

Pay:                 $21.00 per hour

·         Identify employers and pension plans that they provide;

·        ·         Obtain and analyze legal documents that describe the pension provisions provided to employees of private firms, federal, state and local governments;

      ·         Classify, capture, and mathematically test pension plan provisions using specialized software designed for this task.

Minimum Qualifications

Some college-level coursework in economics, mathematics, business, statistics, or related social science fields. Reasonable knowledge of research protocols and methodologies. Attention to detail and good communication and time management skills. Computing skills in a Windows environment using Microsoft Office. Ability to identify problems. Ability to learn new computer programs quickly.

Major in economics, mathematics, business, statistics, or related social science fields. Ability to plan and carry out work under deadlines and work independently. Ability to independently develop and test mathematical formulas. Ability to quickly understand, combine, and organize information into meaningful patterns. Strong mathematical skills. Experience in data management or analysis. Basic knowledge of pension types and provisions. U-M coursework that includes economic theory (ECON 401 & 402), econometrics (ECON 451 & 452), labor economics (ECON 421& 422), or public finance (ECON 481 & 482).
