Pay Rate: Undergraduate $17/hr, Master’s $20/hr, Doctoral $23/hr

Job Duration: 30-40 hours/week for 2026 summer semester, with the possibility of extending the fellowship into the fall semester for 15-20 hours/week.

Who we’re looking for:
The Video Studio Technician Fellow supports online course production, live events and studio productions by assisting with studio setup, lighting, audio, and signal flow in a professional production environment. This role is ideal for students interested in live event production or studio and cinema workflows, providing hands-on experience with broadcast, streaming, and multi-camera systems. Fellows will work alongside professional staff to set up, operate, and strike productions while learning best practices for safety, troubleshooting, and production standards. The position emphasizes technical skill development, collaboration, and real-world exposure to modern video production infrastructure.
 

What You’ll Do:

  • Assist with production setup and teardown, including staging, cabling, and configuring cameras, lighting, audio, and support equipment.
  • Prepare lecture and presentation spaces for online course content capture and hybrid delivery.
  • Gain hands-on experience operating lighting consoles, audio mixers, and video switchers under supervision.
  • Participate in live events, live-streamed courses, and recorded segments, supporting real-time production workflows.

Educational Value

The Experience and Skills You’ll Gain:

Student Fellows will develop hands-on skills in modern video transport and production technologies, including SMPTE ST 2110, NDI and Dante. You will gain an understanding of video conversion and cinema camera workflows, while learning studio best practices used in professional environments. You will gain experience supporting multi-camera productions and build an engineering-oriented understanding of video transmission, signal flow, and troubleshooting. Fellows will also learn proper production documentation standards and on-set terminology to communicate effectively within live event and studio crews.

 

Job Requirements

Student Qualifications:

  • Current student in media production, broadcast, film, or a related technical field.
  • Interest in live events, studio operations, and behind-the-scenes production support, including signal flow and systems-based thinking.
  • Familiarity with, or exposure to, live or recorded production environments (academic, student-run, volunteer, or personal projects).
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail when following technical procedures, checklists, and documentation.
  • Interest in learning cinema cameras, multi-camera production systems, and live production equipment.
  • Curiosity about emerging production technologies, including LED virtual production workflows, Virtual Production and Extended Reality environments.
  • Willingness to take direction, work collaboratively, and develop an engineering-oriented mindset toward troubleshooting and problem-solving.
