Supervisor: Melissa Wensman (cai-student-hiring@umich.edu) Who we’re looking for: The Project Management Team is looking for a driven, detail-oriented, and creative fellow to support the management of online learning projects at the Center for Academic Innovation (CAI). The fellow should have an interest in project management and an understanding of its value in the workplace. Fellows may also have an interest in or familiarity with online teaching, higher education, and open education. What You’ll Do: The fellow will assist the Project Management Team in scoping and developing a wide range of online learning initiatives. You can explore our project portfolio on Michigan Online. The fellow will be paired with a Project Manager to learn the fundamentals of project management and will have the opportunity to dive deeper into specific tasks. Some of the core tasks associated with this role are: Create project timelines and development plans; track tasks to ensure projects are staying on schedule. Attend and participate in design meetings with faculty and CAI team members; prepare agendas, take notes during meetings, and draft next step recaps (meeting minutes). Assist in ensuring that projects comply with CAI policies, including copyright, privacy, and accessibility. Arrange and manage internal projects with student fellows on other teams at CAI; participate in professional development activities with the larger student fellow cohort. Build content into Learning Management Systems (e.g. Coursera and edX); beta test courses before launch. Coordinate policy documentation, such as release and waiver forms. Contribute to internal projects that support the continued development of CAI courses and initiatives. Contribute to design strategy alongside the project’s lead Project Manager.
Student Qualifications:Coursework or experience in liberal arts, project management, instructional design, information technology, educational technology, business, or a related field. Excellent organizational and communication skills (interpersonal, oral, and written). Strong attention to detail and excellence at tasks that require specific processes. Proficiency in Google Workspace (specifically Google Docs, Sheets, Slides). Ability to manage multiple projects at the same time, balancing priorities, schedules, and goals accordingly. Ability to work well in a collaborative environment. Emotional intelligence skills to manage complex relationships. Strong commitment to problem solving, teamwork, and the ability to act independently. Interest in being exposed to subject matter close to and far away from your comfort zone.
