Job Description

Working with health and wellness communications staff, design and prepare a wide variety of assets, including posters, handouts, social media, presentations, and charts; assist in the preparation of designs and layouts for printing and/or publication; perform fine artwork using specialized techniques; take and manipulate photos and videos; perform lettering and illustration work; and support other miscellaneous duties as part of the Wolverine Wellness communications team.

 

This position will play an important role in communications and marketing efforts, particularly for student-facing health and wellness resources within Student Life. Content will cover topics including mental health, sexual health, alcohol and other drugs, public health initiatives, and more.

Job Requirements

Required qualifications:
 

  • Currently enrolled as a U-M undergraduate or graduate student

  • Demonstrated design skills (note: work samples are required as part of the interview process)

  • Ability to translate the written word into a compelling design that promotes health and wellness and will resonate with the college population

  • Collaborate with colleagues to apply best practices to strategy, conceptualization, creation, and production

  • Conceptualize visuals based on requirements and ensure designs use appropriate colors and layouts, and are within university and unit brand standards

  • Prepare materials for press and work with print vendors to ensure consistency and quality, e.g., proper format, paper specifications, print specs (bleed/crop marks), etc.

  • Design, prepare, and test materials for use on websites, social media, digital signage, and mobile devices

  • Experience with Canva and the Adobe Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere Pro)

  • Experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Office products

  • Superb attention to detail and excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to work independently and resourcefully (i.e., ability to work effectively with sometimes limited supervision) and also collaboratively on interdisciplinary teams

  • Respect and empathy in dealing with difficult subject matter or controversial topics, such as alcohol and other drug use, depression, sexual health, trauma, and related topics

 

Desired qualifications:

  • Classwork in art and design

  • Knowledge of or interest in student health and well-being issues, including social justice and health equity

  • Work-study preferred

  • Experience with website content management systems, e.g., Drupal, WordPress

  • Knowledge of Trello or a similar project management tool

  • Experience with social media and social media management tools (Sprout, etc.)

 

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour to $17.00/hour
