Job Description

The School of Public Health (SPH) invites applications for the Employment Data & Outcomes intern position within the Careers Office, housed within the Office for Student Affairs (OSA). The Careers Office is a team of 3 full-time professionals that are focused on supporting the career journeys of our graduate and undergraduate students. 

Through this position, you will have the opportunity to collect, clean, and analyze data, as well as create data reports, documents, and visualizations. A significant part of this position (40%) will be posting public health internships and jobs across all sectors for all departments and programs. We are seeking a student who is excited about providing employment opportunities and communicating employment data and can work at a consistent and efficient pace. 

 

This position will be hybrid, with the intern being able to work 40% of their shifts virtually, and 60% in-person in our office at SPH 1 Suite 1700. The position will require 10-20 hours of work per week, with compensation at $18-19 per hour. The position will be for the academic year Fall 2026 - Winter 2027 with possible extension. 

 

Responsibilities

  • 50% Data Collection, Cleaning, and Analysis: 

    • Public Health Employment Data

      • Pull reports and gather data from our Career Services platform regarding job postings and employer engagement

      • Develop monthly reports and visualizations on the SPH Careers Public Health job board hiring trends 

      • Develop monthly internship and job posting lists for each SPH department

      • Research Public Health employment opportunities across various industries  

      • Clean employer and employer contact lists in the Careers Gateway monthly to ensure that the most recent and reliable data is available for students

    • Post-Graduate and Internship Outcomes Data

      • Collect post-grad outcomes data through online research including LinkedIn and Organization searches

      • Analyze post-graduate and internship outcomes data based on department, student, and career staff needs

      • Develop data reports, documents, and visualizations to effectively explain employment outcomes to various stakeholders including departments, university offices, and Public Health Organizations

      • Assist with the creation of an annual Internship Report and Employment Report to share with current students and stakeholders

    • Student Feedback Data

      • Clean and analyze data on student feedback regarding career support needs and assessments 

      • Create reports and visualizations to effectively communicate student career feedback to various stakeholders

40% Job Postings

  • Post internship and job opportunities across all sectors and for all SPH departments and programs on the SPH Careers Gateway 

10% Professional development and support

  • In depth onboarding process throughout summer 2026 (anticipated to be around 15-25 hours) 

  • Participate in biweekly peer coaching meetings & trainings

  • Participate in biweekly 1:1 meetings with your direct supervisor 

  • Participate in biweekly all staff meetings with full SPH Careers staff 

  • Participate in twice a semester celebration events with full SPH Careers Team staff

    • Knowledge of evaluation and assessment design and effectiveness

    • Ability to collect data through pulling reports (we will show you how to pull the reports in our careers platform)

    • Skilled in data cleaning in Excel/Google Sheets 

    • Skilled in analyzing quantitative data in Excel/Google Sheets 

    • Ability to analyze and summarize/communicate qualitative data 

  • Data Reporting & Visualization

    • Ability to create reports and visualizations of data to effectively present information to various stakeholders

  • Project management

    • Contribute to and provide leadership in projects

    • Ability to manage multiple projects with different timelines

  • Pursuing a University of Michigan School of Public Health residential graduate degree (Biostats, EHS, Epid, HBHE, HMP, NS)
