Global REACH Program Assistant Position 2026

Job Description:

The Michigan Medicine Global REACH office facilitates global health research, education, and collaboration among University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS) faculty, trainees, students, and our global partners for the benefit of communities worldwide. Global REACH focuses on five key goals:

·       {C}To enable students, trainees, and faculty to develop high-impact careers in global health

·       {C}To create partnerships that allow our medical school community to collaborate synergistically to improve global health

·       To advance education and research in global health, particularly on the “science of collaboration,” while cultivating a community of educators and scholars

·       To cultivate a community of educators and scholars committed to improvements in global health

·       To demonstrate the value of global health initiatives to the medical school and the University of Michigan

Global REACH is seeking a graduate student Program Assistant to support administrative details related to our student travel and faculty research programs, and our portfolio of Asia Programs in the Global REACH office.

Responsibilities:

Asia Programs

·       Assist in the administration of the executive education programs, with duties including but not limited to:  

o   Administering the arrival survey, in-program survey, and end of program survey.

o   Collate all survey materials completed during the program and prepare summary report for the last day of the program

o   Help with logistics for program participants, including ground transportation and meal planning

·       Help with the general communication, documentation, and evaluation of other Asia programs and initiatives

·       Facilitate research and educational events

·       Attend program meetings and take notes

 

Student and Faculty Programs

·       Maintain, audit, and update Global REACH databases related to our Memorandums of Understanding, student travel grants, and faculty partnership development grants

·       Lead impact assessment for the Partnership Development Grant program, including distributing and monitoring surveys, and compiling responses into a centralized dataset for analysis and reporting

·       Research best practices in education abroad and, in partnership with Global REACH staff, help develop structured reflection activities to support medical students engaging in international experiences

·       Other duties as assigned, based on mutual interests (may include coordination of social media and blog posts, marketing tasks, etc.)

 

Required Qualifications:

·       A current graduate student enrolled at the U-M Ann Arbor campus with an interest in global health, communications, international relations, or other areas that align with position responsibilities

·       {C}Ability to work flexible hours and some evenings and weekends for events and meetings

·       Available to work 30-40 hours per week during summer 2026. There is a possibility of extending the appointment to the 2026-2027 academic year, with a reduced hourly commitment of 10-20 hours per week

·       Proficiency with Microsoft suite applications

·       Strong organizational and time management skills, meticulous attention to detail

·       Confident interpersonal skills and a desire to collaborate

·       Excellent communication skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

·       A current graduate student enrolled at the U-M Ann Arbor campus with an interest in global health, communications, international relations, or other areas that align with position responsibilities

·       Ability to work flexible hours and some evenings and weekends for events and meetings

·       Available to work 10-20 hours per week during the remainder of the winter term and 30-40 hours per week during summer 2026 is required. There is a possibility of extending the appointment to the 2026-2027 academic year, with a reduced hourly commitment of 10-20 hours per week.

·       Proficiency with Microsoft suite applications

·       Strong organizational and time management skills, meticulous attention to detail

·       Confident interpersonal skills and a desire to collaborate

·       Excellent communication skills and be able to work independently as well as part of a team

 

Desired qualifications:

·       Knowledge of UM policies and practices

·       Fluency in Mandarin Chinese is a big plus, but not an absolute requirement

·       Experience using coding software for qualitative analysis

 

Reports to: Administrative Director, Asia Programs Director

Hours: ~30-40/week during the summer

There is a possibility of extending the appointment to the 2026-2027 academic year, with a reduced hourly commitment of 10-20 hours per week.

Work Location Location: Hybrid. Students may work most days remotely and should provide their own laptop or computer equipment. Some in-person meetings will occur at the Global REACH offices on North Campus Research Complex or other campus locations at U-M Ann Arbor. Students MUST be available in person for meetings from April 27 – May 15, 2026.
