Job Description

About the Role:

The University Career Center (UCC) is looking for candidates for our consulting peer advisor role for the 2026-2027 academic year. Consulting peer advisors are unique in that they are a part of a team responsible for advising and coaching students interested and preparing for consulting recruiting season and interviews -- as well as our general peer advisor team. You will conduct 1:1 mock case interviews and give presentations on the consulting industry and recruiting process. You will report to one of our career coaches who works with you throughout training and daily during the year.

Additionally, after the heavy consulting recruiting season you will be a part of our peer advisor team which consists of 6-8 other students. Combined, you will be an important part of how our office lives out our mission to help students feel confident as they transition beyond U-M. In recruiting for our peer advisor team we welcome all students!

You Will:

Advise and coach students interested in consulting on business case interviews and consulting preparation (40-60% of the role). The peak season is September/October/November.

  • Consulting case interviewing and preparation

  • Consulting specific presentations and group appointments

  • Consulting programming

Additionally, you will help all students with resumes & cover letters, interview prep, UCC digital tools, & connect students with alum/professionals in…

  • 1:1 appointments and group advising to multiple students in our Resume and Internship Labs

  • Presentations to student organizations on job and internship strategies

  • Career Tracks and Projects

  • Event Support, Clothes Closet, and Center Operations

Educational Value

Why should you become a peer advisor? As a result of this role, you’ll hone these skills (and more!):
1. Communication & collaboration skills: You’ll leave this role highly trained in public speaking and with ample experience developing engaging content, tailoring presentations to different audiences’ interests, and leveraging technology with groups all the while creating and collaborating with your fellow teammates.
2. Leadership: Coaching students will help you learn to leverage the strengths of those you are working with. You’ll learn to provide tailored feedback and mentorship to others and utilize strategies that empower others to succeed through challenging situations.
3. Critical thinking skills: Peers are given the chance to pitch projects or initiatives that would serve the student body and then often take those projects from start to completion. Identifying a problem, finding a creative solution, and executing? Well, that’s critical thinking!
4. Career management: The biggest perk of this job is how much it can help you in your own career management. In addition to learning your own strengths and weaknesses to leverage/work on in the future, you’ll learn how to effectively search/obtain opportunities and how to be effective once there. You’ll also have the career coaching staff there to support your process every step of the way.
