Position: Logistics Coordinator

Compensation: $16/hour

Hours: Will vary by week, approximately 10-12 hours per week

Program Summary

The Program on Intergroup Relations (IGR) is a social justice education program that blends theory and experiential learning to facilitate students’ learning around social group identity, social inequality, and intergroup relations. 

 

CommonGround, a student-run program within IGR, provides workshops for groups of UM students (student organizations, courses, etc.) by request. The workshops aim to raise awareness about social identities, power, privilege, and oppression. CommonGround prepares undergraduate and graduate students to create and facilitate these interactive workshops.

 

The Programming Team is the group of undergraduate student staff and graduate interns that manages program operations and supports the selection, training, and coaching of the student volunteers in CommonGround. Being a member of the Programming Team is an opportunity to work collaboratively with other student leaders who are passionate about social justice education

 

IGR is hiring a Logistics Coordinator for the CommonGround workshop program.

 

Job Description 

The Logistics Coordinator oversees most of the communication, scheduling, and organization of CommonGround. They ensure that everyone in the community stays connected and informed about what is going on. This position can also include being involved in programming and workshop management to a varying degree.

 

Work Responsibilities 

  • Manage a system for workshop requests, including scheduling incoming requests, communicating with requesters, and organizing the waitlist process

  • Create and send out the “CommonGround Digest” twice a week using email 

    • The Digest is the main communication with the CommonGround community and includes workshop facilitation sign-ups, program updates, campus announcements 

  • Support Graduate Intern for Recruitment & Retention in logistics for R&R

    • Work closely with Graduate Intern to organize recruitment efforts

  • Maintain Google calendars, Google Drives, email account, and contact lists for CommonGround. 

  • Manage communication and attendee information for CommonGround training retreats every semester  

  • Uplift concerns heard/expressed by WFs to the Programming Team.

  • Order food for retreats and other CG community events**

    • Serve as the contact person for food delivery workers

    • Save receipts and send them to the Program Manager

    • List of catering options, organized by dietary restrictions

  • Order new supplies through M-Marketsite as PT needs. (For purchases that cannot be fulfilled by M-Marketsite, consult the Program Manager.)

  • Support the mission of CommonGround as an active member of the Programming Team

    • Attend weekly Programming (staff) meetings 

    • Co-facilitate workshops, weekly meetings, and sections of the training retreats

    • Assist with marketing, recruitment, and selections of new members

  • Commit to a regular 10-12 hour/week work schedule, with some occasional nights and weekends 

  • Attend weekly supervision meetings

  • Attend weekly undergraduate PT member meetings

  • Must be available to start on August 1, 2026.

  • Attend a required orientation retreat from 3-8pm on the following Fridays: September 4, September 11, and September 18.

  • Attend Programming Team retreat the week of August 17 (to be scheduled based on availability).

  • Attend required 2 hour biweekly (every 2 weeks) meetings throughout the semester. For the Winter 2025 semester, biweekly meetings will take place on Fridays from 3-5pm. You must be available on the following dates from 3-5pm: October 2, October 16, October 30, November 13, December 4.

  • Be available on Fridays from 1-2:30pm for a Programming Team meeting.

  • Must be a current/enrolled undergraduate student at the University of Michigan 

  • A strong understanding and commitment to social justice education & intergroup relations; knowledge of social identities, power, privilege, and oppression

  • Excellent organization & time management skills, attention to detail, reliable, self-motivated, and can meet deadlines

  • Passionate about creating spaces for intergroup dialogue

  • Willing to be vulnerable and step outside comfort zone

  • Can work independently and in a team environment with other students and staff 

  • Preferred: experience with teaching, training, or facilitation, detail oriented, familiarity with Canva, familiarity with scheduling tools (e.g. when2meet)
