Job Summary

The Operations Team at the Ross School of Business plays a vital role in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for students, faculty, and staff of one of the world’s premier business schools. As a member of this essential team, you will help support operations encompassing all areas of our complex and serve every department. You should expect a relatively fast-paced environment with plenty of opportunities to test your problem-solving skills. As an important member of our team, you will have a front-row seat to watching a large-scale department come together to deliver operational excellence.

Tentative Job Dates

We are hiring for Fall and Winter terms in 2026. The ideal candidate is local to Ann Arbor starting two weeks before the beginning of the term, or the week of August 17, 2026.

Responsibilities

In this role, you may be assigned to cover a rotation of different roles depending on staffing needs. These include:
 
Welcome Desk
  • Serve as the first point of contact, greeting members of the Ross community and visitors, including prospective students, employers, and guest speakers.
  • Provide directions and answer a wide variety of questions about the building, campus, and events.
  • Assist with lost-and-found inquiries and update an online web application as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions at the welcome desk.
  • Assist with room reservations and provide general administrative support as needed.
Safety Support
  • Proactively report safety concerns to supervisors and managers
  • Contact the University of Michigan Department of Public Safety (DPSS) in the event of safety issues or emergencies
  • Maintain awareness of AED (automated external defibrillator) locations throughout the building
  • Post signage to block off unsafe areas as needed (i.e., wet floors)
Mail Handling (Team lifting may be required; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs).
  • Receive and document packages and mail being delivered to the building
  • Organize mail distribution, documenting deliveries, and pickups throughout the school.
Event Support (Team lifting may be required; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs)
  • Assist with setup, adjustment, and teardown of event spaces, including moving furniture and event equipment.
  • Steam and place seat covers.
  • Refresh event spaces before, after, and between events (cleaning, organizing, vacuuming)
  • Maintain inventory of event-related equipment.
Building Support (Team lifting may be required; must be able to lift up to 50 lbs)
  • Support classroom and meeting spaces by replenishing supplies (markers, erasers) and testing operational equipment; report and document any malfunctioning equipment.
  • Refresh bathrooms by tidying common surfaces and restocking supplies (no contact with bodily fluids required).
  • Support general building maintenance by cleaning common and shared spaces.
  • Assist with space organization, reconfiguration, and light custodial duties.
Facilities Support
  • Clean cubicles and office spaces for new hires and office moves.
And other duties as assigned.
 
Supervision
  • The Department of Operations will directly supervise the OSAs.
Compensation
  • $15.50/hour

Time Commitment and Work Schedule
  • OSAs may be required to attend weekly meetings, including regularly scheduled huddles and special meetings for extended study hours.
  • OSAs are required to attend training covering a variety of topics, including lost and found administration, rental lockers administration, and any other relevant processes.
  • Work schedules will include days and/or nights on weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
  • OSAs will be expected to work 5 to 25 hours per week, depending on availability.
*The Department will request OSAs to submit a copy of their class schedule to ensure their scheduling will not conflict with their Academic schedule. However, please note that with the exception of classes, this position is expected to be high priority.
