Overview: The Center for Research on Learning and Teaching in Engineering (CRLT-Engin) at the University of Michigan is a vibrant, collaborative workplace committed to fostering an inclusive environment by prioritizing accessibility and complying with WCAG 2.1 AA standards. The Digital Accessibility Program Assistant will support the review and update of CRLT-Engin’s materials to ensure compliance with digital accessibility standards under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Key responsibilities include: Understanding digital accessibility principles by participating in relevant professional development Ensure digital accessibility through alt text creation and content remediation, e.g., adding heading structure to Google Docs and slides, and remediating PDFs through alt text addition, structural tagging, and reading order correction Tracking remediated files using the CRLT-Engin Team Drive Tracking Spreadsheet Meeting with CRLT-Engin staff to discuss project status and priorities for next steps Support special projects and initiatives as needed
Qualifications: Enrolled in a graduate program in engineering, engineering education, or STEM-related field Familiarity with Google Apps (e.g. spreadsheets, documents, etc.) and project management tools such as Asana Experience with learning management systems, especially Canvas Strong organizational and multitasking abilities Ability to prioritize and complete multiple tasks in a timely manner, and to work both independently and as part of a collaborative group Demonstrated commitment to learning and/or applying accessibility principles
Work Environment:This position is mostly remote, with some on-site work as needed, based on the availability of participating staff Anticipated Work Schedule: There are 150 hours available from March 15 to June 30, 2026, with a flexible schedule. Possible work hours are as follows: Compensation:$20.00/hour, no benefits (e.g., no health insurance, retirement, or tuition waiver) |
