Job summary - The engineering technician will provide engineering expertise for the design and development of physical simulators used for clinical skills and procedural training. The engineering technician will assist in the research, development, design, and testing of physical simulators. They will be expected to apply their engineering skills to apply and/adapt procedures, techniques, tools, materials, and/or equipment to this end. Responsibilities - Working independently and/or with small team of peers and faculty, design and develop products used in medical education, including, but not limited to artificial organs or other devices that represent anatomic features and landmarks · Apply rapid prototyping processes to evaluate feasible design options of newly-built simulators · Apply a variety of technologies and processes, including, but not limited to, 3D printing, and mold-making, and applications of silicon-based products · Inspect, repair, calibrate and maintain relevant equipment and materials required in simulator build process · Keep lab area clean and orderly · Monitor inventory disposable supplies, and report needed materials for ordering · Ensure safe operation and maintenance of equipment and materials used in rapid prototyping process · Create and update workflow (process) documents, and simulated tissue ‘recipes’ · Work closely with Clinical Simulation faculty and staff to coordinate integration of prototype into curricula during evaluation phase · Assist in data collection as needed · Obtain/ maintain UM IRB CITI (PEERRS) training |
