Marketing and Social Media Intern

The Multidisciplinary Design Program (MDP) in the College of Engineering is seeking a Marketing and Social Media Intern to help strengthen our outreach and presence to students and the broader U-M community.

This part-time summer position is 8-15 hours per week during the summer with an opportunity to extend the appointment through Fall26/Winter27. This is a flexible, in-office position, with some remote hours. Students will be allowed to use created materials in their portfolios

About MDP: With over 450 students enrolled for academic credit and nearly 1,200 attending events, workshops, and site visits each year, MDP provides practical, hands-on experiences that foster collaboration, innovation, and professional growth for U-M engineering students and beyond.

Duties include:

  • Creating engaging social media content and scheduling posts that promote projects, events, recruiting, and program highlights

  • Designing visuals/content using Canva or similar video and graphics applications

  • Monitoring and analyzing  the effectiveness of social media strategies and/or posts to boost public engagement

  • Interviewing MDP participants, project teams, and faculty to develop promotional material and student spotlights

  • Helping improve printed materials (one-pagers, flyers, etc.) for an array of audiences (students, stakeholders, industry leads, researchers)

  • Attending MDP events, workshops, or site visits (as schedule allows) to capture photos and short video clips for marketing purposes (equipment provided)

  • Supporting special communications projects 

 

 
Educational Value

This position will help the student build practical skills in social medial and marketing content creation, digital communication, and audience engagement by creating social media content, designing promotional materials, and analyzing how messaging performs across platforms. The role also develops professional strengths in interviewing, visual storytelling, branding, time management, and independent project execution while working within the standards of Michigan Engineering and a large, visible academic program. 

Job Requirements
  • Ability to balance creativity with the requirements of the Michigan Engineering brand and the MDP 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal  

  • Interest in developing a cohesive brand and social media strategy for the program  

  • Creativity and enthusiasm for generating engagement and growing audiences on social media platforms

  • Attention to detail  

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively, working independently to meet deadlines while maintaining a quick turnaround.

Hourly Rate $18.00/hour to $22.00/hour
