The University of Michigan Sexual Assault Prevention & Awareness Center (SAPAC) has an opening for a Raise the Bar Coordinator position, available for undergraduate upperclassmen (Junior or Senior) or a graduate student currently enrolled at U-M to apply. The individual in this role will primarily support the operations of the Raise the Bar program, a bystander intervention program designed for undergraduate students in high-risk populations to engage in knowledge acquisition, dialogue, and skill-building workshops. The start date for this position is August 24th, 2026, or agreed upon date. 

 

In addition to coordinating Raise the Bar, the individual in this position may also provide training around SAPAC Services for undergraduate and graduate students who submit requests. In this workshop, participants gain a comprehensive overview of services and resources that SAPAC offers to survivors and their allies. Participants also learn about the neurobiology of trauma, common reactions to sexual violence and trauma and how to support a survivor and connect them to resources after a disclosure has occurred. 

This role is collaborative with a co-coordinator where you will work together to develop workshop curriculum, implement RTB marketing and campaign initiatives, and facilitate focus groups. Together, you will also train and support volunteers, including determining how to lead meetings and facilitate their training.

 

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Develop curriculum focused on sexual assault and the intersection of alcohol and other substances.

  • Deliver two-hour workshops for Raise the Bar participants with the assistance of Raise the Bar volunteers

  • Train and oversee volunteers in their role within Raise the Bar 

  • Recruit and retain organizations and student groups engaged with the program campaign. Maintain relationships with organizations and conduct workshops for student organizations and groups of students living off campus 

  • Distribute, analyze, and assess evaluation to participating organizations 

  • Distribute promotional, certificates, and other project materials to organizations that successfully complete the Raise the Bar Certificate program.

  • Create program introduction and workshop for Volunteer Training Canvas Module

  • Promote Raise the Bar on campus and to the community by attending monthly Ann Arbor Campus Community Coalition (A2C3) meetings

  • Attend weekly leadership and professional development meetings with all SAPAC co-coordinators and supervisors

    •  Deepen learning about identity, systems of oppression, and other skills and tools that pertain to sexual violence and social justice work 

    • Commitment to the continued development of MLead competencies including: Action, Building Relationships, Empathy, Self Awareness, Feedback and Facilitation

    • Development and completion of a year-end MPortfolio that highlights your work as a SAPAC Co-Coordinator and volunteer

Job Requirements
  • Enrolled as a U-M undergraduate upperclassman (Junior or Senior) student in Public Health, Social Work, Higher Education, or other fields related to prevention education, social justice, etc.

  • Experience with prevention education, restorative practices, public speaking, and/or community organizing

  • Strong interpersonal and emotional skills -- ability to positively liaise with students and staff in a high-volume, fast-paced program

  • Highly organized -- able to promptly and courteously respond to emails; able to manage multiple program details

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and experience 

  • Highly comfortable with public speaking for various audiences

  • Self-motivated, independent, reliable, responsible individual that is able to take direction and work independently

  • Must have a flexible work schedule; some evenings and weekends may be required.
