Job Title: Ground Works Digital Publishing Assistant

This is a temporary, part-time position for the Fall 2026 semester, ideal for U-M students with an interest in digital archiving. The Ground Works Digital Publishing Assistant will report to  the Research Program Manager within Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities (a2ru) and will collaborate on special projects associated with the online digital archive Reco(r)ding CripTech. Reco(r)ding CripTech documents the collaborative, creative work of four disabled artists in 2022-23; the archive launches in a working version July 2026. This intern will assist primarily with a special edition of a2ru’s online journal Ground Works; the special edition is associated with the archive. They will also assist with post-launch work on the archive itself.

 This is a grant-funded position, limited to 10 hours per week for 15 weeks.

Educational Value

Ground Works is an open-access peer-reviewed journal that promotes interdisciplinary research centering the arts. The Reco(r)ding CripTech archive on Ground Works is a multi-institutional project encompassing arts-integrated research, digital documentation, disability and accessibility, and creative collaboration. The Ground Works special edition associated with the archive uses a collaborative peer review process and leverages rich media for arts-centered storytelling. It will also include “aesthetic access”--mobilizing accessibility features like alt-text and captions to creatively enhance the total experience.

The Digital Publishing Assistant will:

  • gain hands-on experience with all these nested entities and projects, especially with the collaborative peer review process, digital accessibility, and bibliography style guides.
  • contribute to an ACLS-funded project
Job Requirements

Required qualifications:

  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  •  Attention to detail

Responsibilities may include assistance with:

  • Coordination of peer review process, including tracking progress of individual reviews, identifying reviewers, scheduling and communication
  • Assembling metadata on select artifacts for transfer to Fulcrum, including communication with artists

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour to $18.00/hour
