Job Description:
This job is for current University of Michigan undergraduates only. The Nam Center for Korean Studies seeks undergraduate students to participate as “Cultural Liaisons” in a study abroad program for students from Gyeonggi Province, Korea, sponsored by LS&A and offered by the Nam Center. Liaisons will participate as peer mentors and guides for the students under the Youth Ladder Program, enrolled in a three week-long study abroad course in Ann Arbor. Liaisons will function as study assistants, supporting the formal in-class instruction in after-class study halls and practice clinics, in-class projects, and act as guides and group leaders for outside-classroom cultural experiences around Ann Arbor and eastern Michigan. Each Liaison will be responsible for a group of two to three students from Korea and will lead them in activities independently as well as part of the larger group. This program is scheduled from Monday, July 6, 2026 to Friday, July 31, 2026.


Schedule:
Candidates should be available on all of the following days and times during the program period.
? Activities will take place five days a week: Mondays-Thursdays 2-5 pm, Fridays 8 am-5 pm (approximately)
? A 2-hour paid training meeting on June 30 will be required before the start of the program date.
? A program orientation on July 6 (the first day of the program), which includes lunch, from 12-3 pm.

Educational Value

Students in this position will learn about cross-cultural exchange and communication, second language teaching and learning, and event planning and execution. They will also have the opportunity to network with high-achieving participants with a range of professional backgrounds from Korea.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:
? Current enrollment as a U-M undergraduate.
? Experience in LSA undergraduate courses
? Interest in cross-cultural exchange
? Time availability (please see dates above) and punctuality
? Native speakers of English with excellent English written and oral communication skills.


Preference will be given to candidates who contribute to a diverse array of academic backgrounds, those with international experience, interest and/or knowledge of Korea, and to candidates with prior teaching or tutoring experience.
