Job Description

The Public Service Intern Program is hiring for two DC Coordinators and one MI Coordinator for
the 2026-2027 fall, winter, and summer terms as this position is year-round from August to August.
The three PSIP Student Coordinators (SCs) work together as program leaders and are responsible for the
program’s day-to-day administration on the student side. They work directly with students as peer
advisors and help facilitate bi-weekly seminar meetings with the PSIP Manager. The Student
Coordinators receive supervision from the PSIP Manager, a professional University Career Center staff
member. There are two SCs for DC-bound students and one SC for Lansing/MI-bound students.

RESPONSIBILITIES

? Promote and market PSIP to attract a large cohort of participants, including hosting a table at
FestiFall and leading two Mass Meetings
? Assist in planning PSIP timeline and format to accomplish program goals
? Organize PSIP application processes, alumni interviews, and collaborate with PSIP Manager in
selecting program participants
? Plan and facilitate bi-weekly seminars (whole-group participant meetings) and semester events
? Schedule regular 1-on-1 office hours with PSIP students (& track number of visits/topics covered)
? Research and post internship leads and application links in the Current Postings Bulletin
? Review application materials including resumes, cover letters, and writing samples and provide
constructive feedback
? Promptly respond to participants’ e-mails and send weekly email BlueLine and MaizeLine
newsletters
? Advise participants on relevant issues including program information and deadlines, internship
search skills and tools, decision-making strategies, and professionalism in the workplace
? Report to PSIP Manager: Meet weekly, update on issues via email/phone/in-person, refer
students who have questions you do not know how to answer or need a supervisor’s input (ex.
financial aid, summer housing, employer and alumni contacts)
? Develop knowledge of job boards such as USAJobs, Handshake, TraverseJobs.com, and other
career readiness resources and services (attend UCC student staff orientation to learn)
? Maintain and update detailed files and documents, including a large internship employer
spreadsheet and alumni spreadsheet
? Assist in organizing and facilitating mass emails to students and PSIP alumni

? Strengthen and engage ongoing connections to and opportunities for PSIP alumni
? Model professional behavior and internship search success to program participants
? Professionally represent PSIP to students, employers, staff & alumni at campus events and in DC
and Lansing
? Assist with other University Career Center events, including occasional front desk coverage
? Assist with planning and executing between 2-5 summer events/programs: DC Welcome
Reception, alumni speaker panels, employer site visits, tours to National Mall and museums, etc.
? One DC Coordinator is expected to live in DC during the summer (late May to early August) at
one of PSIP’s recommended summer housing locations (TurnKey Housing - Meridian at Mount
Vernon Triangle or the George Washington University dormitories) while working at a summer
internship, and be available available for summer events with the PSIP-DC interns
? The MI Coordinator is expected to live in Michigan over the summer and be available for
summer events with the PSIP-MI interns

Job Requirements

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
? PSIP alumnus/a with some experience working in government or public service, and a strong
commitment to and belief in the program mission and goals
? Ability to work approximately 15 hours per week during the academic year and serve as live-in
coordinator in DC from late May/early June to early/mid August (1 SC lives with the group)
? Flexibility in scheduling as needed and appropriate (note: PSIP Student Coordinator(s) have some
flexibility in scheduling due to class times, but are expected to have somewhat consistent hours
and attend all meetings / events)
? Written / oral communication and interpersonal skills in individual and group interactions
? Organizational and administrative skills including time management and attention to detail
? Leadership skills including demonstrated professionalism, program management, initiative, and
creativity
? Adaptability in the event of unforeseeable changes to employer and alumni timelines and
circumstances

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
