Job Description |
Position Summary: The Welcome Wednesday event staff member is responsible for representing and communicating the Alumni Association brand, products and services to alumni, students, University community members and guests to encourage participation and membership with the Alumni Association (AAUM). Additionally, the Welcome Wednesday program assistant is responsible for welcoming alumni, students, members of the University community and visitors during the weekly Welcome Wednesday programming event. The position is a part-time position and each staff member must have availability during select Wednesday mornings and afternoons from 7:30am-12:30pm for programming, as well as additional time throughout the week for event preparation. The total number of expected hours per week is 0.5-5.5 hours. General Duties & Responsibilities: - Deliver welcoming, high-quality customer service to alumni, students, and the broader U-M community in support of the Alumni Association of the University of Michigan (AAUM) during Welcome Wednesday programs.
- Assist with event setup and teardown, including moving and arranging furniture and equipment as needed.
- Support event hospitality by distributing food, preparing coffee, and monitoring supplies to ensure items are replenished, restocked, and presented neatly throughout the event.
- Serve as a first point of contact for in-person questions; clarify needs, provide accurate information, and direct guests to appropriate AAUM and University resources.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current on Alumni Association /University updates and to use the customer relationship management (CRM) database accurately and professionally.
- Serve as a representative of the Alumni Association by maintaining strong knowledge of the Mbassador program, student membership, and Alumni Association programs and services that support and engage students, and communicating these resources clearly to student groups, alumni, and campus partners.
- Serve as the designated Bagley mascot for Welcome Wednesday events by wearing the costume as scheduled and ensuring it is returned to and properly stored in the designated storage room at the end of each event.
Supervision Received: Required Qualifications: Current University of Michigan student. Ability to be professional, punctual, reliable and conscientious in the performance of all duties. Knowledge and experience with basic software (Word Processing programs, Excel, Internet, e-mail, etc.) is required. Demonstrated ability to work in team environments is necessary. Excellent interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to work independently and exercise judgment in setting work priorities is required. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are necessary. Commitment to high quality customer service. Must have a creative and positive attitude
