The Health and Retirement Study (HRS), has an immediate need for temporary research assistants to perform data cleaning, coding and routine clerical tasks. The HRS, housed at the Institute for Social Research, University of Michigan, is a major national longitudinal survey on the health and economics of aging and retirement. The advertised position is to work on the Harmonized Cognitive Assessment Protocol (HCAP), a sub-study within the HRS that assesses cognition and dementia in older adults in the United States. The duration of this position is flexible. Please indicate in your cover letter your availability for August 2026 through Winter 2027, as well as your Summer 2027 availability. While all applications are welcome, we will give preference to candidates who are available to begin work at least half-time beginning August of 2026. Successful candidates will be asked to attend the HCAP 2026 Interviewer Training in Ann Arbor, MI, from August 4 - August 7 to learn about the study and the data they will be monitoring. Successful employees will be invited to work in the 2026-2027 academic year. Successful candidates will work under the supervision of HRS project staff to clean and code quantitative data on the cognition of older adults, collected during the HCAP 2026 field period, and qualitative open-ended comment data, collected during the HCAP 2022 and 2026 field periods. They will use SAS software to monitor incoming 2026 HCAP data, with training on SAS coding provided as needed. Additional duties include codebook review, data checking, and routine clerical tasks. Days and hours of work: Monday – Friday during normal business hours 10-20 hours/week during the academic year 20-40 hours/week over the Spring/Summer Length of assignment: 12 - 18 months |
