Job Description

Job Summary

The Center for South Asian Studies (CSAS) is seeking a part-time, temporary assistant to help maintain day-to-day operations during a staff leave. This position is expected to work 20-30 hours per week, primarily in person, with hours that may vary seasonally based on unit needs and the event calendar. The role is anticipated to begin in mid-May; the end date is to be determined and may range from approximately 1 to 4 months or longer, depending on coverage needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support for the unit
  • Triage email and phone inquiries by responding to routine questions or routing requests to the appropriate staff member
  • Schedule meetings and distribute calendar invites
  • Prepare basic meeting materials, take notes and circulate minutes and action items
  • Complete administrative projects as assigned in coordination with the center staff and director
  • Support preparation for signature center events including communicating with guests, organizing itineraries and upkeep of the event calendar
  • Assist with event logistics including coordinating room reservations, IT support and occasional day of support
  • Assist with annual website updates, SiSA blog scheduling/posting, and event page requests
  • Support center staff in production of the annual newsletter, event promotions and other communication materials
  • Compile data for annual grant reports and enter into grant management platform

Additional Information

This role is primarily in-person, however there may be an opportunity to work remotely one day per week after the onboarding phase.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and virtual meeting tools 
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic environment 
  • Demonstrated interest in South Asian studies helpful but not required
  • Experience in academic or higher education settings preferred
Hourly Rate $17.00/hour to $22.00/hour
Hours 20.0 to 29.0 hours per week
