About the role: The University Career Center (UCC) is seeking energetic candidates for our student marketing assistant role for the 2026-2027 academic school year. You will report to our Social Media & Community Engagement Strategist who will work with you throughout training as well as on a weekly basis throughout the academic school year. You will be an important part of how the UCC lives out our mission to help students feel confident as they transition beyond U-M. In recruiting for this position we welcome the unique contributions and intersections that you can bring to the team. The UCC’s communication efforts reach both undergraduate and graduate students as well as other campus audiences in order to support U-M students in their career development. The student marketing assistant impacts these marketing efforts by handling the behind-the-scenes logistics of many of the UCC’s email, print, and social media communications. Job Responsibilities: Quickly create fun and compelling written, graphic, photo, and video content for social media platforms in order to increase student engagement and awareness of University Career Center events and services Stay on top of relevant trends, tools, and platforms in order to proactively suggest ways the UCC can leverage them Support UCC staff members with projects, events, and general office operations such as fairs, workshops, appointments, photography headshots, Clothes Closet visits, networking/recruiting events, and other UCC offerings Bring new ideas and a fresh perspective to the UCC and our way of communicating with students and recent alums Contribute to building a positive campus community that affirms, values, and includes all members

1. Communication & collaboration skills: You’ll leave this role with robust experience in modern, multi-channel communication. You will hone your ability to create compelling written, graphic, and video content for diverse student audiences while learning to manage the behind-the-scenes logistics of email, print, and social media campaigns. Collaborating directly with our Strategist and the broader UCC team, you’ll learn how to build an inclusive online community that affirms and connects with undergraduate and graduate students alike.
2. Leadership: Bringing a fresh perspective is a core part of this role. You will learn to lead from where you are by tracking current trends, tools, and pop culture, and proactively pitching ideas on how the UCC can leverage them. Furthermore, you will act as a visible ambassador and champion for the UCC, helping to guide your peers toward valuable career resources through your creative output and cross-functional support at major campus events.
3. Critical thinking skills: Marketing is more than just creating fun content—it’s about problem-solving and strategy. You will develop critical thinking skills by analyzing digital engagement trends, working with data and spreadsheets to track performance, and figuring out how to make complex career resources highly accessible and engaging. Identifying what resonates with students, adapting to time-sensitive goals, and executing creative solutions is critical thinking in action.

Job Requirements |
Required Qualifications: Availability to work 8-10 hours per week Comfortable working with audio/video editors and graphic design tools ? if you have experience with Adobe’s Creative Suite, Piktochart, Canva, Final Cut Pro, or similar programs, that’s a perk (but not required)
Comfortable working with numbers, data, formulas, and reports ? if you have experience with Google Sheets or Microsoft Excel, that’s a perk (but not required) Coachable and has the curiosity to learn new things Dependability, customer-centered mindset, and a professional & positive attitude Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications: Interest in media, fashion, graphic design, advertising, public relations (PR), and/or marketing & communications Experience with captioning and accessibility as well as an interest in memes and pop culture Experience using social media, podcasts, and/or email marketing to reach students (e.g., over the course of a previous job/internship, as part of extracurriculars such as a student org, or as part of a research/class project)
Comfortable being the voice and face (in front of the camera) of social media posts for the University Career Center in order to bring more awareness of resources, services, and opportunities Comfortable making basic website updates on popular content management systems such as WordPress or Drupal
We offer training to our student marketing assistant and provide continuous feedback to ensure you feel confident and comfortable throughout your time at the UCC.
