Job Summary:

The position will work with Professor Gabriela Marcu to develop and execute a social media strategy for the Extra Credit comedy show, which combines short talks from UM researchers with comedy by a local improv group. Our current social media presence is primarily on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/extracreditimprov/), Facebook, and LinkedIn. The work will also involve interacting with various members of the UM community, and our collaborators at local improv theater hear.say. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and oversee a social media strategy that uses humor and positivity to (1) share UM research with the public, and (2) build community within UM and Ann Arbor

  • Drive the social media presence for our monthly comedy show, to promote attendance locally while broadcasting snippets of the show more broadly

  • Pitch, plan, and execute creative social media posts while proactively seeking input and feedback

  • Attend 1-3 events per month to capture photos, videos, and stories that can be shared on social media

  • Administer short surveys via QR code before the show and during intermission to assess the makeup of our audience and how they learned about the show

  • Generate a call for featured speakers and distribute it widely across UM by identifying appropriate channels via social media, email lists, flyering, etc.

  • Search for new opportunities to increase awareness of the show such as visiting meetings across units, contributing to newsletters, participating in podcasts, etc.

  • Gain experience with leading a marketing and communication strategy while collaborating with various stakeholders

  • Apply and develop skills in creative writing, comedy writing, graphic design, photography, and/or videography

  • Practice turning complex research ideas into pithy social media content while staying true to core meaning and messaging

  • Develop strong portfolio pieces

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

  • Skills in marketing, communications, photography, videography, creative writing, and/or comedy writing 

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Highly creative and collaborative

  • Proficiency with social media platforms and interest in using social media for social impact

  • Excellent initiative and ability to work independently while seeking out input from others

  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including attention to detail

Hourly Rate $20.00/hour to $25.00/hour
