Job Description |
The Student Theatre Arts Complex, (STAC) is a preproduction facility located in south campus in the south end of the Plant Services Building B across from Crisler Arena. It is a resource for student performance organizations to use to build sets, rehearse shows/dances, and to make costumes for their productions. STAC is seeking a motivated student leader to help manage daily scene shop operations and support student organizations using the shop for theatrical productions, set construction, and woodworking projects. This position provides guidance on set design and construction, supports STAC student staff, trains shop users on safe tool use, and helps maintain an organized, safe, and productive shop environment. STAC is a program of the Center for Campus Involvement, CCI. Responsibilities - Advise and support student organizations with set design, construction, and shop use.
- Help supervise and guide 2–3 STAC student staff members.
- Maintain and update the STAC task list to communicate daily priorities.
- Conduct daily operations checks, assess shop needs, prioritize tasks, and assign responsibilities.
- Train shop users on safe use of power tools, including table saws, miter saws, band saws, and power hand tools.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and overall shop organization.
- Support day-to-day Center for Campus Involvement, CCI initiatives.
- Provide strong customer service to students, staff, and internal/external clients.

Job Requirements |
Individuals must be able to work well with a diverse team, have strong communication skills, and demonstrate a positive attitude. Candidates should be responsible, organized, dependable, detail-oriented, adaptable, and willing to take initiative. Experience with power tools, basic construction, design schematics, and/or set design is required. Comfort working autonomously and managing ambiguity is important. Customer service experience, involvement in a student organization, and prior scene shop or technical theater experience are desired. Work-study preferred. Qualifications - Experience working in a scene shop or carpentry shop.
- Experience using power tools and basic set construction.
- Understanding of design schematics and set design.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Organized, dependable, detail-oriented, adaptable, and self-motivated.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively with a diverse team.
- Comfortable managing ambiguity, taking initiative, and supporting multiple audiences.
- Customer service, student organization, or leadership experience preferred.
