Job Description |
The Budget & Finance Intern will support the Facilities & Operation’s finance team by researching, analyzing, and reporting on future expense trends that may affect institutional budgeting, planning, and resource allocation. This role is ideal for a student or early-career professional interested in higher education finance, data analysis, budgeting, and strategic financial planning. The intern will work with financial data, historical expense patterns, market indicators, and operational information to help identify cost drivers and forecast future spending needs across university functions such as academic departments, facilities, technology, student services, research administration, and administrative operations.
Key Responsibilities - Research and analyze historical university expense data to identify patterns, trends, and emerging cost pressures.
- Assist in forecasting future expenses related to salaries and benefits, utilities, supplies, technology, facilities, contracted services, and other operating costs.
- Gather and evaluate external data, such as inflation rates, labor market trends, energy costs, higher education benchmarks, and vendor pricing trends.
- Support the development of financial models, dashboards, and reports to summarize expense projections.
- Prepare clear summaries, charts, and presentations for finance leadership and other stakeholders.
- Assist with scenario analysis to evaluate potential financial impacts of changing economic or institutional conditions.

Job Requirements |
- Current enrollment in or recent completion of a degree program in finance, accounting, economics, business, public administration, data analytics, higher education administration, or a related field.
- Strong interest in financial planning, budgeting, and data-driven decision-making.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel or Google Sheets; experience with pivot tables, formulas, and charts preferred.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
