Job Description

Position Summary

Working closely with both technical and non-technical customers within the University fundraising community, the Development Services Temp will oversee the physical organization, digital tracking, and distribution of university hardware. In addition to inventory management, this role serves as Tier 1 IT support, delivering technical assistance to over 200 Office of University Development (OUD) staff. The ideal candidate is a proactive, detail-oriented self-starter with exceptional organizational and communication skills, an eye for process improvement, and a strong commitment to high-quality customer service. 

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities

Inventory and Organization

  • Responsible for organizing current hardware inventory both physically and via software such as Google sheets. 

  • Maintain accurate inventory of all deployed hardware within Michigan House.

  • Identify needed equipment and report to the Development Services Coordinator for ordering.

  • Propose and implement methods of physical storage to better organize inventory. 

  • Regular equipment checks of AV conferencing/hybrid equipment

  • Prepare and manage Property Disposition and E-Waste

Distribution of Hardware

  • Prepare and ship hardware as required to development staff. 

  • Assist with preparation and staging of hardware for onboarding new employees.

  • Assist with hardware collection and organization from offboarding employees.

Tier 1 IT Support

  • Handling general hardware and software support request in tandem with Neighborhood IT

    • Assist with facilitating equipment deployment, issues, hardware break fix and software support. 

  • Provide Tier 1 support for 200+ OUD employees

    • Work directly with DI Director staff to efficiently support all OUD staff.

    • Provide emergency and baseline support for OUD staff.

      • Be available to quickly and professionally assist staff when issues arise.

Educational Value

This position provides hands-on experience in IT operations, hardware inventory management, equipment deployment, and technical support in a professional workplace setting. The role helps develop practical skills in troubleshooting, customer service, asset tracking, AV/conferencing technology, and coordinating support for a large staff group. It also offers exposure to organizational IT processes such as onboarding, offboarding, e-waste/property disposition, and working collaboratively with technical teams and leadership.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled at the University of Michigan.

  • Prior experience and knowledge in a technical field

    • Knowledge on general hardware and software troubleshooting

    • Experience with Google Apps and Microsoft suite

  • Excellent technical, verbal and written communication, organizational skills and demonstrated ability to provide effective customer service to a diverse group of people.

  • Proven ability to work independently, assume responsibility, exercise good judgment and communicate effectively.

  • Effective time management, problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Working knowledge of terminology and concepts related to technical hardware.

Preferred Qualifications

 

NOTE: This position is required to work on-site.

  • Currently pursuing bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan, in a field related to information technology.

  • Detail oriented self-starter

  • Desire to learn the mission, goals and objectives of both the University of Michigan, as well as those of the Office of University Development and work in ways that help us achieve these. Desire to enhance and improve the University of Michigan’s position as an international leader in development.
