Job Description

This is a position for wet-lab work. The focus will be on work related to neurodegenerative mechanisms primarily with Drosophila as a model organism. Duties will include stock maintenance and help with a variety of experiments across behavioral, molecular biological, and biochemical techniques. This is primarily geared for students interested in pursuing research (MD/PhD or PhD) with graduated responsibility and autonomy. I have a preference for work study eligible students, UROP students and/or neuroscience majors interested in pursuing research work through MNI mechanisms which I can support. While preferred, those are not mandatory and should not deter students from applying.

Educational Value

Students have the opportunity to learn skills and techniques related to Drosophila work, gene expression analysis, protein analysis, fly genetics, fly behavior, brain dissections, confocal microscopy, and data analysis. Full training will be provided over time as projects dictate. Longer term education will also focus on hypothesis generation, experimental design, and project management with the opportunity for the student to develop work for an honors thesis or similar.
