Job Description

The University of Michigan School of Dentistry’s Office of Alumni Relations and Development is seeking a dependable, detail-oriented U-M Ann Arbor student to support alumni and donor engagement efforts. This position will assist with a variety of administrative, event, communications, and office support tasks in a busy professional environment.
The student assistant will help the office maintain strong relationships with alumni, donors, faculty, staff, and friends of the School of Dentistry. This is a great opportunity for a student interested in gaining practical experience in office administration, alumni relations, donor engagement, communications, marketing, event support, or higher education operations.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Organizing, filing, and maintaining historical alumni and donor materials
  • Updating, researching, and verifying alumni records and contact information
  • Creating, formatting, and proofreading event materials, including nametags, programs, invitations, signage, and other printed items
  • Assisting with the creation of social media content, marketing materials, and other communications to support alumni and donor engagement
  • Preparing and coordinating large in-house mailings
  • Tracking, verifying, and organizing event responses and attendee information
  • Maintaining office supply inventories and organizing office and storeroom spaces
  • Responding professionally to basic inquiries by phone, email, and in person
  • Assisting with general clerical tasks, campus errands, event preparation, and special projects as needed

Work Schedule
Hours are available Monday through Thursday between 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Scheduling will be arranged based on the student’s class schedule and office needs. Evening and weekend hours are not regularly expected, but may occasionally be requested to support alumni, donor, or School of Dentistry events.

Job Requirements
Applicants must:

  • Be a current University of Michigan Ann Arbor student
  • Have excellent English writing, proofreading, and communication skills
  • Be able to commit to a minimum of two full semesters, with availability to work into the upcoming academic year
  • Be self-disciplined, focused, organized, dependable, and able to complete projects accurately
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail
  • Be comfortable working independently and as part of a team
  • Be able to communicate professionally with alumni, donors, faculty, staff, students, and visitors
  • Maintain confidentiality when working with alumni, donor, and office materials

Desired/Preferred Qualifications
Preferred candidates may have:

  • Familiarity with Google Workspace tools, including Gmail, Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Google Drive
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
  • Prior office, clerical, administrative, customer service, communications, marketing, or event support experience
  • Experience creating or assisting with social media, marketing, or promotional materials
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple tasks or projects
  • Interest in dentistry, healthcare, business, advancement, alumni relations, donor engagement, communications, or event planning

Pre-dental and Ross School of Business students are encouraged to apply, though students from all majors are welcome.

 

Hourly Rate $15.00/hour
