Job Description

The Marsal Family School of Education's Office of Student Affairs is seeking an energetic and organized Student Office Assistant to provide exceptional support services to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. This role is ideal for a student looking to develop strong administrative, communication, and marketing skills in a professional, fast-paced student affairs office.

Key Responsibilities

Front Desk & Customer Service: Serve as the first point of contact for the office. Warmly greet visitors, answer phone and email inquiries, and assist students with scheduling advising appointments or finding general campus support.

Administrative & Operational Support: Assist with essential day-to-day operations. This includes creating new resources and updating existing ones—such as front desk guides, FAQs, and student-facing materials for various teams within the office. This role also involves ensuring office resources comply with accessibility standards, managing and tracking office inventory/supplies, and handling accurate data entry.

Marketing & Communications: Distribute the monthly career newsletter using our online recruitment system, Symplicity, and manage the office's digital display by refreshing and scheduling content. Create engaging and informative promotional and marketing materials for upcoming student events, as well as content for office visitors.

Event & Program Support: Provide hands-on assistance with the planning, setup, and execution of student events and initiatives. This includes, but is not limited to, Orientation, Welcome Week, wellness events, community check-ins, and managing the cap-and-gown loaner program.

Special Projects: Take on additional duties tailored to your unique interests, skills, and the evolving needs of the office.

This position is in-person.

Educational Value

Through this role, students will gain valuable hands-on experience in a friendly, dynamic, and fast-paced student affairs office while developing a robust set of transferable skills. By managing day-to-day operations and engaging with the Marsal community, students will build advanced skills in professional communication, customer service, and operational organization, including inventory management and resource tracking. Additionally, this position provides technical proficiency with Symplicity and digital display software, along with practical experience in event planning and project coordination for major student initiatives.

Job Requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and Canva, with strong general computing and typing skills; a willingness to learn specialized platforms like Symplicity is required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with a welcoming, customer-service-oriented mindset for interacting with office visitors.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong time-management skills.
  • A proactive mindset with the ability to take initiative, work independently, and collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Must be able to work in person and on-site at the Marsal Family School of Education’s Office of Student Affairs during scheduled shifts.

All duties can be taught through on-the-job training. Work-study is preferred but not required.
