Job Description: The Operations and Events Assistant will support projects, programs, and events at the Center for Research on Learning and Teaching (CRLT). Depending on the project, the key responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with planning of an asynchronous graduate student teaching orientation

  • Reviewing and updating Canvas course sites to meet accessibility standards

  • Creating PDFs, documents, and presentations that meet accessibility standards; and remediating existing files that are not accessible

  • Using an accessibility testing tool (such as axe DevTools or WAVE) to identify and fix accessibility issues on a web page

  • Updating web page content and formatting using a web editor or by editing the HTML directly

  • Uploading and linking files on a web page

  • Using Siteimprove to fix broken links

  • Compiling information into spreadsheets, documents, and/or presentations

  • Cleaning and standardizing data in spreadsheets

  • Organizing electronic files and folders

  • Other duties as assigned

Schedule: This position requires availability on Thursdays for at least 4 hours. The remaining working hours can be completed on a different day of the week. CRLT's business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Only in-person work is being offered.

This role will begin in late-July/early-August and continue into the fall term.

 
Educational Value

Student assistants at CRLT develop their office and interpersonal skills in a teaching center that is dedicated to the support and advancement of evidence-based learning and teaching practices and the professional development of all members of the campus teaching community. In addition, the students will have opportunities to network with staff, faculty, and students. The student in this position will further the Center’s efforts on digital accessibility.

Job Requirements
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel  

  • Proficiency with Google Workspace tools, including Docs, Sheets, and Forms

  • Knowledge of digital accessibility standards, including WCAG 2.1

  • Experience remediating documents and PDFs to improve accessibility

  • Experience reviewing and editing Canvas course sites 

  • Preferred: Experience using the Panorama accessibility tool

  • Preferred: Knowledge of HTML or experience editing web page content
