OAMI Tutor Position

The Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI) seeks candidates for tutoring positions SuccessConnects program for the 2025- 2026 academic school year.

We are currently seeking tutors for the following:

  • CHEM
  • BIO (100-200 levels)
  • PHYSICS (140, 240 and 150 levels)
  • MATH 105, 115, 116, 215, 216
  • Spanish
  • Econ
  • Stats
  • EECS (especially 183, 203, 280 and 281)
  • Engin 101
  • SI 101 and 201

Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

  • Tutoring: Provide individualized asset-based academic support to students by helping them review and learn concepts to improve their academic performance.
  • Administrative Duties: Applicant must be able to follow through on the following administrative tasks as needed:
    • Filling out administrative forms, i.e., surveys, tutor admin forms, etc. (as needed)
    • Be communicative and fully responsive to communications sent by supervisors
  • Training/Orientation: Required training/orientation sessions, which will take place before tutees can be assigned scholars/tutees.
Educational Value

Planning and development of academic content; ability to conduct needs assessments; increased awareness of campus support resources; ability to communicate and instruct; problem-solving; planning and coordination.

Job Requirements

University of Michigan enrolled students that have demonstrated strong overall academic achievement and successfully completed the course(s) that they will be tutoring at U-M Ann Arbor with a grade of B+ or higher; possess effective communication skills that allow them to explain difficult concepts; ability to troubleshoot approaches to learning concepts in oneon-one tutoring; capable of facilitating small groups in collaborative learning, as well as the ability to follow through on basic forms and administrative tasks as needed.   Past tutoring and/or academic support experience is beneficial. Interviews will be conducted following the receipt of applications and resumes.  Excellent references are a plus.
