IRWG Graduate Fellow for Research Development The Institute for Research on Women and Gender (IRWG) announces a paid position for a University of Michigan (U-M) graduate student (at any level or program) to serve as the IRWG Graduate Fellow for Research Development. Through this role, the Fellow will learn about the operations of an academic research center and gain experience working with researchers from a variety of career stages and disciplines. The Fellow will assist with internal grant competition administration, funding opportunity research, grantwriting, research-focused programming, and research communications. This role aims to build the fellow’s professional skills in program management as well as their knowledge of grantmaking and research funding in higher education. About IRWG Established in 1995, the Institute for Research on Women & Gender (IRWG) is an interdisciplinary unit of the Office of the Vice President for Research. IRWG's mission is to support and encourage research on women, gender, and sexuality at U-M. We do this by providing direct research funds, extramural grant support, and public programming for the campus community and public. Position Overview The Graduate Fellow will work closely with IRWG Director for Faculty Research Development Savannah Hall, PhD, and other staff in the following capacities: Assist with the administration of IRWG’s internal grant competitions, including the application, review, and award-making process; Contribute to efforts to identify potential funding opportunities for IRWG affiliates and for the IRWG newsletter; Help plan workshops on feminist research praxis, grant proposal development, and other topics of interest; Assist with grant proposal writing to support the Institute's goals; Help collect key data on the Institute’s funding and research development programs (ex: design surveys, assess workshop/event effectiveness).
The Fellow will receive training and continued support in all aspects of the job description. We view this position as a learning and professional development opportunity. Qualifications Required Enrollment in a graduate program at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. Ability to work in person in Ann Arbor, with the option for some remote hours. Excellent organizational and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines. Ability to write brief descriptions of programs and workshops as well as emails to collaborators. Interest in research, public scholarship, gender and sexuality studies, or community engagement.
Additional Information The position is expected to continue throughout the academic year, with the possibility of summer work and renewal based on performance and organizational needs. Learn more about IRWG here.
Compensation & Schedule Approximately 10 hours per week during the academic year. Additional hours may be required during Institute events. Hourly, part-time temporary position (Research Assistant classification). Pay rate: $25/hour. Workspace available within Lane Hall.
