Laboratory Assistant at the Great Lakes Science Center

The position involves conducting research of Great Lakes fisheries datasets.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Analyze fisheries data
  • Processing laboratory samples for thiamine content
  • Organizing laboratory equipment and treatments

The Madenjian laboratory is primarily focused on Great Lakes fisheries work on Lake Michigan involving Lake Trout. The micronutrient thiamine, vitamin B1, is necessary for development and neurological function. Whether mediated by maternal or nutritional factors, deficiencies exist allowing for the laboratory to research how to overcome these limitations whether in the wild or in hatcheries.

Educational Value

The position offers experience in a laboratory setting at a federal research building.

You will be able to work with other laboratory members, handle multiple datasets, process diets from fish with varying levels of thiamine content applicable to other fisheries or hatchery laboratories.

Job Requirements

You will be required to work at a computer with knowledge of Microsoft Suite including Excel and Word.
