GRADUATE REFERENCE ASSISTANT at the WILLIAM L. CLEMENTS LIBRARY The William L. Clements Library is a University of Michigan library that houses rare books, manuscripts, maps, and graphics for the study of American history and culture from the fifteenth through the nineteenth century. Its mission is to collect and preserve primary source materials, to make them available for research, and to create an environment that supports and encourages scholarly investigation of our nation's past. Students and temporary staff, under the supervision of the Clements' regular staff and faculty, will gain familiarity with the operations of a special collections library, learn to handle rare materials safely, and respond to reference requests both remotely and in person. This position supports the work of the Reader Services department, which assists researchers remotely and in the Avenir Reading Room. Position Responsibilities The Reference Division Graduate Student Position at the William L. Clements Library assists with tasks related to supervising patrons' research work in the reading room and remotely. Provides services to in-house researchers, including answering procedural and reference questions Provides reference services for remote researchers using both the Aeon and Springshare platforms May include paging, shelving, or other duties as needed
