Job Description

SMTD Social Media Ambassador

The Marketing & Communications team is housed within the Office of Advancement in the School of Music, Theatre, & Dance. The Social Media Ambassador position would be responsible for supporting SMTD’s social media accounts, with a primary focus on Instagram, by creating student-centered and student-forward content highlighting the vibrant SMTD community. Additional responsibilities would include updating all of SMTD’s social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn), organizing student takeovers, and some social media analytics work. 

 

This position is hybrid with an expectation to create content in-person with SMTD community members, attend and chronicle SMTD events, and participate in weekly meetings with the Brand & Creative Services Manager (BCSM).

 

This position will be responsible for ~6 hours of work per week, depending on the intern’s academic schedule. Opportunities for continued work post-SMTD commencement may be available and will be discussed at a later date. 

Primary Responsibilities include: 

  • Create student-forward & centered content for Instagram

    • In collaboration with the BCSM, identify vertical video/photo feature opportunities of SMTD students that can be highlighted on SMTD’s Instagram

    • Create captions for any video content and alt text for any content created

    • Help arrange student takeovers throughout the academic year

    • Engage with all 19+ departments and offices at SMTD to ensure a full picture view of the SMTD community

    • Partner with student-run department channels to create collaborative content

Additional Responsibilities may include:

  • Support BCSM by posting across SMTD’s social accounts

    • Create a content calendar for posting when the BCSM is away or unable to post

    • Submitting video content to our video team to upload to YouTube

  • Update Social Media Analytics to track channel/post successes

  • Ensuring all SMTD account posts are accessible (captions & alt text)

  • Creating an inventory of all official and unofficial SMTD social media accounts

Job Requirements

Ideal candidates possess the following: 

  • Current student majoring or minoring in a program with the School of Music, Theatre & Dance

  • Fluency with social media platforms (i.e., Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).

  • Graphic design skills and experience with design platforms such as Canva, Adobe Express, Adobe Illustrator, etc.

  • Creativity in telling student stories. 

  • Effective time management and prioritization skills. 

  • Ability to meet deadlines while working remotely and independently. 

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with others.

  • Experience with monitoring and adhering to accessibility guidelines of marketing materials and digital content.
