Ginsberg Center Student Building Engagement Coordinators Position Summary: Student Building Engagement Coordinators are undergraduate students who play a vital role in fostering a welcoming, inclusive, and engaging environment at the Ginsberg Center. This position supports the Center’s daily operations by helping cultivate a strong sense of welcoming, managing event logistics, assisting with programs, and supporting front desk operations. Coordinators are responsible for ensuring that events and meetings run smoothly, including preparing spaces, setting up, and breaking down, welcoming guests, and supporting programs that engage students from diverse backgrounds. Through this role, coordinators help create an accessible and inclusive space for students, staff, faculty, and community partners. The Ginsberg Center is a community and civic engagement center whose mission is to cultivate and steward equitable partnerships between communities and the University of Michigan to advance social change for the public good. Guided by this mission, the Center envisions inclusive democracy, thriving and diverse communities, and equity and social justice. As part of their training, Student Building Engagement Coordinators are required to participate in the Ginsberg Center’s Foundations of Community Engagement Workshop and Turn Up Turnout’s Voter Registration Training. They are also expected to attend monthly student staff meetings. Key Responsibilities Cultivate a Welcoming Environment Create a warm, inclusive, and hospitable atmosphere within the Ginsberg Center. Welcoming students, community partners, campus partners, and visitors from diverse backgrounds while upholding the Center’s mission, values, and commitment to equity and inclusion. Assist with the Ginsberg Transportation System Support the coordination and scheduling of leased University vehicles for Ginsberg Center programs during the Fall and Winter terms. Assist with vehicle pick-up, scheduled maintenance, returns, and communication related to transportation needs or issues. Respond to phone calls and emails regarding transportation and complete other transportation-related tasks as assigned. Support Event and Meeting Logistics Assist with the setup and breakdown of event and meeting spaces to ensure they are prepared for productive gatherings, programs, and activities. Provide support with audio/visual equipment, troubleshoot issues as they arise, and respond to guest needs in an efficient, professional, and courteous manner. Manage Front Desk Operations and Guest Engagement Provide frontline support by answering phone calls, greeting, and directing visitors, and maintaining a professional and welcoming presence at the front desk. Facilitate building tours that highlight the history, legacy, and key features of the Ginsberg Center Building. Assist students interested in community engagement by connecting them with appropriate resources, including the Ginsberg Center Support Request process, ginsberginfo@umich.edu, the Connect2Community website, and other relevant opportunities. Serve as an ambassador for the Ginsberg Center across campus. Provide Administrative Support to Ginsberg Staff Assist Ginsberg Center staff with administrative tasks and special projects as needed. Manage assigned responsibilities efficiently, accurately, and in a timely manner. Support Facility Operations Complete building opening and closing procedures in accordance with Ginsberg Center policies and procedures. Conduct safety and maintenance rounds to ensure the facility is operating effectively. Learn, uphold, and enforce relevant campus and building safety policies. Help maintain and care for the physical space of the Center. Represent the Ginsberg Center Demonstrate a commitment to advancing the mission, values, and work of the Ginsberg Center. Exercise sound judgment when acting on behalf of the Center. Perform other duties as assigned. Schedule and Availability The schedule for this role is dependent on program needs, facility hours of operation, and student availability. Candidates must be able to work a minimum of 10 hours per week. Supervision This role is supervised by the Office Manager and the Associate Director of the Ginsberg Center. |
