Job Description

LSA Student Recruitment is an office within the College of LSA that focuses on recruiting high school and transfer students, as well as promoting the liberal arts. The LSA Office of Student Recruitment is seeking a diverse team of LSA First-Year Student Ambassadors who are enthusiastic about the University of Michigan and LSA, interested in promoting access to higher education, involved in a wide range of activities, and able to engage with prospective students and admitted first-year students from all backgrounds.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide excellent service to high school students and their families through email, in-person interactions, and virtual recruiting activities.

  • Attend required public speaking training sessions, practice, and then co-present to groups of 100 to 600 admitted first-year students and families during the Winter term for Campus Day. 

  • Interact with and co-present with the LSA Recruiting and Outreach Coordinator and other ambassadors in webinars and in-person sessions for prospective and admitted students and their families throughout the academic year.

  • Assist with planning, preparing, and executing LSA events. 

  • Help refer admitted students to existing resources and programs on campus.

  • Participate in a weekly Friday team meeting with the Recruiting and Outreach Coordinator and other LSA Student Ambassadors. Compensation and food are included. 

  • Complete 2 hours of professional development per semester. The goal of this requirement is to use and experience the resources of LSA and UM to aid in our recruitment and outreach efforts.

Job Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S. by completing your I-9 before beginning work. You are required to have all of your I-9 materials before you are hired.

  • Must be a current LSA undergraduate student in good academic standing.  Preferences will be given to students with experience in customer or guest services, recruiting, outreach, public speaking, or other relevant fields. You may also be dual-enrolled in another UM College/School.

  • Strong written and verbal communication, plus organizational and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to learn and articulate the value of an LSA liberal arts and sciences education.

  • Hours will vary and may include evenings or weekends.

  • Complete and pass a background check to work with minors on campus.

  • To be eligible to apply, you must be available for weekly meetings on Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A meal is provided at each meeting.

  • For Winter 2027, you must be available on Mondays and/or Fridays from 12:15 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., as well as a few select Saturdays for Campus Day sessions, excluding Spring Break.

  • We accept all Google Form applications until 11:59 p.m. on September 4th  and will conduct in-person 30-minute interviews from Monday,  September 7th, to Friday, September 11th 

  • Training will be provided when hired. Orientation will take place from mid-September to October.

  • Pay Rate:  $15/hr, and eligible for a $1 raise with each returning year 

  • Working during the spring and summer terms is optional, but hours vary.
