The University of Michigan School of Nursing is seeking current Nursing PhD students to serve as PhD Peer Coaches for the Pre-PhD Institute. In this institute-focused role, Peer Coaches will help support the program designed to prepare incoming PhD students for the academic expectations and transition into doctoral study. This role is central to ensuring that incoming and first-year PhD students build a strong academic foundation in writing and analytics as they transition into doctoral study.

Program Context

The PhD Peer Coachhing program is an optional, supplemental resource coordinated by the School of Nursing to assist PhD students in achieving academic excellence in writing and analytics. The program ensures students have a strong foundation as they complete their first year in the PhD program.

Responsibilities

Pre-PhD Institute Coordination:

• Assist with the overall coordination, development, and evaluation of the Pre-PhD Institute in collaboration with Institute faculty.
• Support the design and delivery of Institute sessions and materials that prepare incoming students for the demands of the PhD program.
• Contribute to ongoing assessment and continuous improvement of the Institute.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will demonstrate:

• Advanced knowledge of the UMSN PhD program and relevant content areas (scholarly writing and/or statistics and analytics).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Pedagogical practices that promote well-rounded and deep learning, critical thinking, and troubleshooting in the content area.
• Familiarity with program requirements, milestones, and curricular expectations.
• Successful completion of relevant PhD coursework in scholarly writing and/or statistic preferred.
