Job Description

The Center for Academic Innovation (CAI) is offering a paid employment opportunity for the Fall 2026 term (with potential to continue into the Winter 2027 term) that is available to all University of Michigan undergraduate, Master’s, or PhD/JD students/Postdocs. Who we’re looking for:

We’re looking for a motivated, responsible, and creative student to assist in the creation of a new online short course series, “Design for Manufacturing,” under the direction of College of Engineering faculty Kazu Saitou

Responsibilities: 

Duties may include some or all of the following: 

  • Creation of CAD  models for parts and machines for lecture examples

  • Creation of illustrations for lecture slides

  • Creation, testing, and debugging of review quizzes and topic assessments

  • In-Video Quiz (IVQ) creation, testing, and debugging

  • Video subtitle review and revision

  • Slide review and revision, alongside CAI’s Learning Experience Designer

Educational Value

This position offers students a unique opportunity to work directly with College of Engineering faculty member Kazu Saitou to help develop a new online course on Design for Manufacturing. Students will apply concepts learned in the classroom to create engineering content that will be used by learners around the world, while collaborating with faculty and a multidisciplinary team of educational professionals. Through the creation of CAD models, technical illustrations, assessments, and multimedia learning materials, students will deepen their understanding of manufacturing principles, strengthen their technical communication skills, and gain experience translating complex engineering concepts into engaging educational content.

Job Requirements

 

  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)

  • Has previously taken Mecheng 452/ISD528 with A/A+ grade

  • Ability to work independently and in teams in a multicultural and collaborative environment

  • Strong attention to detail

  • Comfort working in an environment with rapidly changing requirements and priorities

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (specifically Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Folders)

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (specifically PowerPoint)

Hourly Rate $17.00/hour to $23.00/hour
