The U-M School of Nursing (UMSN) is seeking Nursing Learning Circle (formerly SLC) Leads for the following undergraduate courses for Fall 2026: - BIOLCHEM 212 Descriptive Biochemistry
- NURS 218 Applied Statistics
- NURS 236 Microbiology & Infectious Diseases
- NURS 245 Pathophysiology
- NURS 370 Reproductive Health
- NURS 372 Therapeutic Nursing Care II
Nursing Learning Circles are a supplemental resource coordinated by the School of Nursing to assist students with achieving academic excellence. Sessions will be facilitated by peer leaders who will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of the content area; pedagogical practices that promote well-rounded and deep learning, critical thinking, and trouble-shooting in the content area; and knowledge of the course-specific materials and course requirements. Duties include, but are not limited to: - Facilitate one, large group, in-person, 90-minute study session per week in collaboration with Co-Leads.
- Facilitate two, small group, in-person 60-minute study sessions per week.
- Provide 60-minute 1-1 tutoring sessions up to twice per week.
- Spend one hour per week to review course material, consult with course faculty or course instructional aides, and prepare for study sessions.
- Offer tips and strategies for successfully completing the course.
- Track the particpation of students for each session and participate in program evaluation.
- Attend mandatory paid on-barding and peer facilitation training.
Note: Each large-group Nursing Learning Circle will meet for 90 minutes in the evening for approximately 14 weeks. Nursing Learning Circles will begin the 1st week of the semester (or as soon as possible thereafter) and end the last day of class. Nursing Learning Circles (NLC) are typically scheduled between 5-9pm Monday through Thursday based on convenience of participants and Leads. Small group and 1:1 tutuoring sessions will be scheduled by NLC Leads at weekly recurring times when NLC Leads are available and in consultation with Emily Herzog. Students will sign up for small group and 1:1 tutoring sessions using the U-M Study app. Sessions will be cancelled if no registrations are received. Leads will be paid for small group and 1:1 peer tutoring session that receive registrations.
