Event Undergraduate Student Lead

About Spectrum Center: Spectrum Center is a campus resource center dedicated to serving and supporting the University of Michigan community, with a focus on gender and sexuality. Founded in 1971, Spectrum Center is the first campus-based center of its kind. About the Position: Event Undergraduate Student Leads are primarily responsible for assisting in programming, including community outreach, planning and hosting events aligned with the Spectrum Center programming model, and assisting the Program Manager for Events and Partnerships in the planning and delivery of signature events. The Event Leads are responsible for promoting Spectrum Center events to our campus communities, as well as attending and hosting events as assigned. The Event Leads will support the Program Manager in coordinating the tabling engagement calendar for the center. As a part of the Spectrum Center student staff team, Event Leads will be responsible for front desk coverage, attending all staff meetings, and supporting the general work of the unit. 

 

 

Job Summary/Responsibilities
 

Event Planning and Support (60%)

? Provide support as needed for signature events planned and/or hosted by Spectrum Center

? Plan and lead events for Spectrum Center.

? Assist the Events and Partnerships (E&P) program manager with long term projects, particularly during light outreach seasons

? Support administrative related event planning

? Attend events and support day-of logistics

? Attend regular check-in meetings with the E&P program manager

 

Tabling and Outreach Support (20%)

? Assist the E&P program manager in their coordination of tabling engagements 

? Promote upcoming events to students and campus community members

? Check and maintain supplies for outreach 

? Attend assigned outreach events, such as resource fairs, to represent Spectrum Center

 

All Staff Responsibilities (20%) 

? Provide front desk coverage for approximately 4-6 hours per week.

? Attend monthly all staff meetings

? Attend Spectrum Center, Student Life, and University-wide professional development opportunities, as assigned

 

Compensation 

Compensation is $16.00 per hour. Work Study preferred. Work is about 10-12 hours per week, with some evenings and weekends required. This position is not GSSA/GSA or GEO eligible.

Educational Value

Educational Value: The Events and Partnerships Undergraduate Student Lead position will work face to face with people from a broad range of demographics, including students, staff, faculty, parents, and alumnx, and confidently represent the center and deliver information regarding services and projects. They will gain experience working within a small team and a larger office, as well as with managing the logistics of small events for outreach. This position will also have the opportunity to learn about assessment for our outreach efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • Enrolled undergraduate student for 2026-2027 

  • Must be able to work some early mornings, evenings, and weekends as needed

  • Some knowledge or desire to increase knowledge of social identities and social justice concepts, specifically around gender identity, gender expression, attractionality, and sexual orientation 

  • Highly organized, self-motivated, responsible, and able to take direction and work independently
