Job Description |
Alcohol and Other Drug Response The Informal Conflict Resolution for Alcohol and Other Drugs (ICR-for-AOD) program allows students to address high-risk alcohol or other drug-related situations in a non-judgmental, private, and educational setting, without incurring a disciplinary record. The ICR-for-AOD program applies a harm reduction approach in supporting students. We often reference the work of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the National Harm Reduction Coalition (NHRC) for current and expert guidance on the best harm reduction practices. This approach allows us to meet students where they are and recognizes that substance use happens on a continuum in which incremental change can occur. This position is a key part of OSCR’s work to Build Trust, Promote Justice, and Teach Peace on campus. As an OSCR Program Assistant, you will embody the philosophies and principles of restorative justice, social justice, trauma-informed care, and conflict transformation, and have cultural competence and expertise in working with diverse populations. You will have the opportunity to facilitate all OSCR programs, with a focus on the facilitation, coordination, and management of the ICR-for-AOD program. Program Implementation Engage as a facilitator of your primary program Support Program Managers and other staff in the daily function of your primary program Provide training and ongoing support to those facilitating your primary program Conduct case management using the Advocate by Symplicity database Coordinate and implement policies, procedures, programs, and services that allow students to develop knowledge of self and others, navigate their educational environment to achieve their desired outcomes, and evaluate the role they wish to play as contributing members of society in a multicultural world. Provide appropriate resources to ensure care of self and others during your primary program engagement and termination
Program Development and Research Consult with all OSCR staff to evaluate and improve all OSCR services to ensure they effectively meet evidence-based, restorative, and trauma-informed criteria. Collaborate with direct supervisor and other OSCR staff to regularly evaluate and improve all OSCR services to ensure they effectively serve historically marginalized communities on campus. Engage in regular professional development opportunities to increase capacity to provide trauma-informed, equitable, and accessible support to members of a diverse community. Contribute to the innovation and growth of the program through research and informed practice.
Communicate directly and maintain connections with campus partners, including but not limited to Wolverine Wellness, IGR, ECRT, HSCR, SAPAC, CAPS, etc.
Other Administrative Responsibilities Comply with and educate OSCR staff and campus stakeholders on regulations and laws related to the work of OSCR, including the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), the Clery Act, and regulations under the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). Comply with and maintain education on policies and laws relating to Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct, including The University of Michigan Policy Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct. Provide logistical support, including scheduling and event bookings, for all training events (including Staff / Student Staff Training, Arbiter Training, Sanction Board Training, etc.). Provide appropriate referrals for students to other Student Life/community resources when assistance required is beyond the scope of OSCR work. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Office of Student Conflict Resolution.

Job Requirements |
Required Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution. Demonstrated knowledge areas include but are not limited to student development, trauma-informed practices, ethical development, social identity development, leadership development, community building, social justice, restorative justice, conflict resolution theory, motivational interviewing, and related theories of human motivation, change, and development. Demonstrated competency in database management
Desired Qualifications Previous experience in conflict resolution, alternative resolution, restorative justice practices, Title IX case management, trauma-informed care, and alcohol & other drug harm reduction practices. Knowledge of federal reporting obligations, including Clery Act requirements. Previous experience utilizing the Advocate by Symplicity student conduct database system. Demonstrated expertise in working with diverse populations (with an emphasis on multicultural, LGBTQ, underrepresented, and underserved populations) with strong cultural competence.

Demonstrated familiarity with computers and software, and the ability to effectively integrate technology into service delivery, such as demonstrated experience with desktop publishing and design software, web page design and development, and database systems. Ability to set expectations and achieve results while contributing to the success of the team. Demonstrated commitment to promoting the highest standards of the profession in accordance with the principles, ethics, and standards of ACPA, NASPA, CAS, and ASCA, as well as established good practices in Student Affairs
