The Dexter Wrestling Club (DWC) seeks a Youth Wrestling Coach to lead practices and mentor wrestlers in our Black Group (aka, the Destroyers).
The Black Group is new to DWC, and consists of our most experienced wrestlers (typically with two or more seasons of experience) who have committed to wrestling as a primary sport and are looking for a competitive training environment. Wrestler participation in competitive tournaments is expected.
The DWC is a community-based youth wrestling program serving athletes from Young 5s through 8th grade. Our mission is to help young athletes develop wrestling skills, confidence, discipline, and sportsmanship in a positive and supportive environment.
The DWC wrestling season begins in November and continues through March, concluding after the state MYWAY tournament. The Black Group is scheduled to practice on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00–8:00 pm at the Creekside Intermediate School in Dexter, Michigan. Tournaments typically occur on Sundays.
This position reports to the DWC Director of Coaching and Competition and works closely with the other club coaches to ensure consistent, age-appropriate instruction across all groups.
Responsibilities: 1. Plan and lead wrestling practices for the Black Group (Young 5s to 8th grade). 2. Coordinate wrestling room logistics, including mat setup, sanitization, and equipment maintenance. 3. Instruct athletes on proper wrestling techniques, positioning, and conditioning. 4. Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive team environment that encourages athletic and personal growth. 5. Coach and support athletes at local tournaments (approximately 8 to 10 events throughout the season). 6. Collaborate with the Director of Coaching and other staff to ensure consistent, age-appropriate instruction across all club levels. 7. Maintain high standards of sportsmanship, safety, and conduct during all club activities. |
